Ume

"Well shit, this is gunna get complicated." I looked at Shō and frowned, he was right. This was about to get very complicated, no wonder Yuzu has so much power. "Umm.. mama, don't you have the same powers? So how is it going to get complicated?" Yuzu looked at me, pleading with her gaze for an answer.

I sighed as I looked into her eyes, "no Yuzu, our powers- my powers rather- are elemental. They come from elements like earth wind water and fire. It has been thousands of years since anyone with your powers has been born." I watched her as she looked down at the book, reading something from the page. I continued speaking as I walked over to her and grabbed the book, flipping to a page that explains how they work. "See?" I turned the book back to her, "it says that you're born with them from your parents lineage, so someone in your family would have had to have these powers for you to get them. That is also what I don't understand, and what makes everything more complicated. Neither your father or I come from any direct descendant of the last known person to have them."

Mei looked away from Yuzu in that moment and I turned to look at her, but it was Shō that spoke, "are you sure about that, Ume? Seeing as Yuzu has these powers suggests that you, or her father are in fact a descendant. " he paused for a moment before continuing, "what if you weren't related to the last known person, but one of the others? Isn't it possible that they just stayed dormant until now in your lineage?"

I thought for a moment as Mei was looking through the book with Yuzu, watching them flip page after page until Mei stopped the pages from turning, "what are all of these names? And why is there an Okogi name here?" I shook my head and took the book once more, looking through the list and recognizing a few of the names as not only my relatives but Yuzus fathers as well.

"Oh dear." Was all I could say. Shō jumped up from his chair at my response and came to look at the book once more. "Hey! He did have it in his blood line! So that has to be where it came from, but why did it take root in Yuzu?" He questioned.

All I could do was point out one of my relatives names. "Who's that?" Shō asked. "That... well my name after marrying Yuzus father as you know was Okogi.. but before that I was known as Ume Mamoru.. this is my relative."

Shō pauses for a moment before the realization hit him, "so that means that you.. you also have this power In your blood?" I nod my head confirming his assumption. "Yes, I do apparently.. I didn't know.. I haven't actually looked tat this page before, I never thought about it until now. It was always just a page with names and weird symbols beside them. I didn't know what they mean. I haven't seen them before. Then again, I haven't read this book too much."

Mei held out her hand towards the book silently asking for it, so I handed it to her. After she inspected the page a little more closely, she casually flipped through the pages further into the book. Mei was nearing the end of the book when she stopped flipping and looked as though she was reading something intently.

I glanced to her father and he was giving me a questioning glance, not knowing what to think or say myself, I shrugged at him and turned to face Mei and Yuzu again. Yuzu looked like she was staring off into space until Mei gently touched her arm and pointed at the page she had been reading.

Yuzu glanced down at the page and gasped, "That's not possible." Shō stood up and was by my side in seconds, seeming to think the same thing as I was we both said, "what's not possible?" Causing both girls to look up at us with shocked expressions. Mei slowly turned the book towards me and I gently took it from her, I glanced down at the book once again and started reading. The more I read the more I'm sure my face showed my own feeling of shock. The information running through my head that I was reading from the book made it impossible to form many words.

All I could say was, "that's not possible."
