Emerald Eyes Of Warning

Yuzu

I was on my run heading home to Mei, 'maybe she will shower with me,' I felt giddy with the thought of that possibility. I continued running while thinking of her.

'YUZU!! HELP PLEASE!' What? Mei? She should be home, I haven't been gone that long. I stopped and checked the time, I had been. I had been gone for nearly two hours. 'I should hurry back, she probably cut her hand or something. Home should be safe.' I continued running.

'Yuzu!! Please! I need you!' I stopped again, 'This doesn't feel right... where is she?' Suddenly a picture exploded in my brain, Mei was running.. and she was only a few blocks from where I am now. I saw a van from her perspective. 'Oh hell no.' I booked it towards her. 'Not again, she died on me once it's not happening again.' I felt my powers kick in, I started glowing knowing my band of colour wasn't far behind, I waited for the hue of purple but was surprised to see a deep crimson red. I almost stopped to bask in the glory of the colour but one thought took over everything else, 'Mei.'

I felt my speed increase as I ran, I turned left, then right, I saw Mei up ahead running away with two men and a van chasing her. I was only 50 feet away and closing. 'Stop,' I thought and suddenly my red band shot forward, forming into an arrow and shot straight through the van. It veered off into a lamp post, I could see from here that the driver and passenger were out cold. The whole commotion caused the two on the sidewalk to stop and look at the carnage of the wreck. 'Just enough time,' Mei was still running and before they could follow her again, I jumped.

I was airborne for the remaining 10 feet of distance between me and them. They both looked around to see me, glowing and flying through the air before I turned and my foot collided with one of their jaws. 'Looks broken.' I thought as I pivoted towards the second taking up a defensive stance.

"N-No please I beg of you! Don't hurt me!!" I stood straight up out of my stance and asked, "who are you and why are you following her? And don't lie, I'll know." To make him believe I would know I added extra power into my glow, I was glowing brighter gold, and my band of crimson red got more intense. He just stood there dumbfounded and in awe of how bright I was, "Well? I'm waiting."

"I-I'm with the pack, I was ordered to-" I cut him off by grabbing him by the throat, "take a message to your higher ups. If you come after her again, for any reason," I tightened my grip on his throat, "I will end all of you. " I felt my eyes burn, 'I'll figure that out later.'

"Now tell me, do you understand?" He nodded his head, "Good, now, as a rating gift to encourage you not to fail me," I let him go, giving him a second of Hope I wouldn't hurt him. Then I grabbed his arm and twisted, dislocating it and breaking it in two spots, I knew cause I felt the bone snap. "Now go, before I change my mind." He ran off scared and crying, clutching his arm.

I had to find Mei, I didn't know where she ran but I hoped she was home safe now. I called out to her, still glowing I channeled everything I could into thinking of her, not that it was hard, she was always on my mind.

'Mei?' I waited for what seemed like forever before I heard, 'Yuzu where are you? Help me.. I don't think I can run much more,' it was when she spoke to me that I knew instantly where she was, 'I'm coming.'

I ran faster than before and within seconds I was in front of Mei, who was still running with all of her might, 'Mei, Stop now. It's okay.' She stopped running and looked at me, 'Yuzu, you came for me.' She started to walk towards me but her legs failed her, zipping forward I caught her and picked her up.

'Not used to running so far huh?' I teased her, 'No, I'm not.' She replied. I chuckled at her, 'It's okay, should have seen me the first time when I took up running. I looked and felt dead for a week.' I picked her up like a beautiful bride,she placed her bag of groceries on her stomach and I started walking her home. 'Mei?whats wrong? You're awefully quiet.'

I looked down and saw her crying, 'hey hey now, why so sad love bug?' She shook her head, 'I didn't know if you would come I was scared, that's the second time in less than 24 hours.. I'm helpless Yuzu..' she buried her face in my shirt.

I stopped walking and spoke out loud, "I will always come for you. I came as soon as I heard you call." She looked up, "you heard me?" Smiling I nodded at her, "yes I did." Kissing her forehead I continued walking, we were almost home.

A few minutes of silence and Mei cuddling into me as I carried her I finally spoke again. "Mei what did you need so bad you couldn't wait for me to come home to go with you?" She started blushing, "I wanted to get stuff for French toast and was hoping.. why are you laughing Yuzu?" I couldn't help myself, I started laughing whole heartedly. "You want me to make you French toast?" She blushed again and nodded.

'Not my fault you make delicious food.' I laughed again, "what did you hear that too?!?" She exclaimed. "Yes I did.. of course I will make you food, but next time.. wait for me okay? Or else you're going to get a cell phone and text me what you want. I have no problem going with you or getting it for you, but I don't like when you end up hurt or scared. This is a serious time now Mei, people want to hurt you and.. I don't know how to control my powers, look at me, I'm still glowing!"

Mei looked into my eyes for the first time since I found her, "y-Yuzu! Your eyes! They're so.. they're glowing." 'Glowing? My eyes?'

Walking into the apartment I carried her to the bathroom with me and set her on the sink beside me, looking in the mirror I saw what she meant, my eyes were glowing alright, a deep emerald green.

'Maybe that's why they're burning,' She looked at me, "your eyes are burning? Since when ?" I quickly recounted my story from when I heard her call to when I found her.

"We have to ask mother about this, Yuzu." I just nodded.

Smiling to myself I laughed, "Hey Mei, you know this is the most we've used our voices in the past day?" She placed her hand on my cheek, "that is true.. speaking of, we should find out the range of how far we can be before we can't hear each other. Though I like talking to you, I think it could be useful to know as well just in case- or rather when that happens to me again.. I have a feeling this is far from over." She looked down, "I don't want to use you like this, but I don't want to die either.. those men.. they're out for my head and I don't know how to stop it."

'I will always be here for you, I'm your protector remember? It's what I was born to do.' I smiled as she looked up at me again, 'no Yuzu you're so much more than that..'
