She's Skipping

"Christmas is in three days. What are we planning?"

"We're going to light the tree during the ceremony on Christmas eve and tomorrow is a free day."

Allura looks at me.

"You guys can wander around town. Shiro and I have business to attend to."

She looks at Anora.

"You have a lesson. If you skip again you can't go out later."

"Woah, woah, woah."

I look at Anora in surprise.

"You're skipping?"

She shrugs and avoids my gaze.

"It's not a big deal. I excel at speaking altean."

"But that doesn't mean you should skip!"

Allura argues.

"You're a princess. It's your duty to attend your classes."

"Lance didn't."

She states blatantly.

"Yeah, but-"

"He did more for Altea than you do or ever will. He's a paladin and he married Keith which unified our races. Queen is all you'll ever be."

She says before standing.

"I'm excusing myself."

She turns and walks off out the door."

"Ouch."

I turn to Allura.

"What happend to her?"

"I'm not sure."

Allura replies while rubbing her forehead.

"It happend about three months after you left. She just shut down and started skipping. She continually sneaks out of the castle and talks back all the time."

"Sounds like there's something out there that has her attention."

Keith says from beside me.

"What?"

I look at him in surprise. He looks back at me.

"She keeps sneaking out so she's obviously doing something outside of the castle. It must really have her attention if she continues doing it."

"Are you saying we follow her?"

"No. That would make things worse."

"I agree with Keith."

Shiro speaks up.

"Keith kept sneaking past the guards when he was younger and when Lady Nexera told the guards to use force he would just knock them out. I went after him one time and he almost cut me from his life."

"I wouldn't say that."

"You stopped talking to me for seven months."

Shiro deadpanned.

"It was pretty bad."

"Why?"

I ask turning to him. He shrugs and offers an innocent smile.

"My mom wouldn't let me have a pet so I just snuck out to see Kosmo. We met when we were both little. I rescued him and he's been with me ever since."

"Always the rebel I see."

He rolls his eyes.

"Every kid wants a pet."

"Are you saying Anora is sneaking out to see an animal?"

"No. She's seventeen. She's probably sneaking out to see a boy."

I stare at him in shock before looking to Allura.

"A boy?!"

Allura turns to Keith is surprise.

"Do you really think so?!"

"How do you guys not suspect this? She's a teenager."

"Yeah, but-"

"Lance."

Keith gives me a look.

"You're not her dad. If you act like this around her you'll end up being ignored by her."

"Hmmm, sounds like someone else I know."

Shiro says from off to the side. He shoots Shiro a glare before looking back at me.

"I'll talk to her."

"You're going to have boy talk with my little sister?"

"Who knows. At least we'll find out what she's doing outside the castle."
