Safety and Kosmo

I watch as Anora taps her foot impatiently. She's watching the road for any sign of her brother. I step over to her and take her hand in mine. She startles and glances at me before smiling.

"They're back!"

The orange haired man from earlier shouts. He runs up to Anora and me excitedly.

"They're all back princess."

She lights up and we all watch as two figures and a horse walk towards us. As soon as they get close enough Anora bursts forwards and launches herself towards Lance. He catches her and they share a tight hug. Not a second later she's standing beside them as they walk towards us. As they come closer the wound on Keith's neck becomes clearer and the man next to me gasps.

"What happend?"

He asks when they stop in front of us.

"Lotor was using magic. Keith can't talk and I'm pretty sure Kosmo killed him. He went crazy and started attacking him. There was this giant burst of energy and they were surrounded in blue fire. When it was gone Kosmo was unconscious and there was a pile of ash."

"Hm. I think I know what happend. We should get you all inside first."

"Is Allura okay?"

"She's fine. In pain but fine."

"It looks like he has some damage done to his vocal cords. Magic is dangerous so it's to be expected. We just need to put him in a healing pod for an hour or so. The scar will still be there for a little bit but otherwise things look great."

She turns to Keith.

"Kosmo is being checked over. Once Princess Allura is strong enough she'll help him."

"Is he-"

The nurse nods.

"He's awake but we're losing him."

She tells me solemnly. I watch as Keith frowns and dismiss the nurse. She gives me a knowing nod before leaving. I move to stand in front of him and he looks up.

"You can't blame yourself for this."

He opens his mouth then closes it.

"You can't talk back but I can read you. You blame yourself for what happend to Kosmo."

He looks away and I continue.

"That wolf would risk his life for you no matter what you do. You wouldn't be able to stop him."

Keith looks back at me.

"He's a space wolf. I'm sure that woman at the store told you something about them."

He nods and I pull him up.

"We're going to go see him."

I drag him down the hall and into another room. Pidge and Hunk both look up as we enter.

"Lance? Shouldn't you be with your sister?"

"My sister has her family. I need to be with mine."

She smiles before standing.

"Me and and Hunk'll go."

They both leave and Keith stares at Kosmo who stares back with dark golden eyes before whining softly. Keith walks over and falls to the floor in front of him. He pulls Kosmo's head onto his lap and strokes it soothingly. Kosmo closes his eyes and his breathing softens. His whole body relaxes and his tail slowly wags back and forth. I sit next to them and Keith leans against me. Not long after sitting there I hear Keith's breathing even out as his eyes close and he slowly drifts off to sleep.
