Chapter 20: White as Snow

The Sorcerer chuckled as he heard your earlier statement. "Did you just thought you could kill me, (y/n)?"

You gritted your teeth in frustration while you put on your fighting stance and eyed the man in front of you cautiously. "Yato wouldn't die even if you do so. As long as someone can remember him, he won't."

"How can you be certain about that? Mah~ Not like you can do it anyway. You cannot even end your previous shinki's suffering." He mocked you. "And here you are trying to save other people."

"Shut up! I am not your pawn! Don't try to lure me with what happened in the past!" You charged at him which he then blocked with his trident.

"How cold of you, (y/n)~. Did you forgot about Haku that fast?" He leaped backwards away from you and hid at the shadow of the trees.

"Are you backing out now? Never thought you were such a coward." You bravely said. 'He's planning something, isn't he?'

He removed the mask from his face yet you still didn't got the chance to see it due to the darkness. "I never even planned to fight you here, (y/n). I only wanted you to meet someone very dear to you." He tossed the mask in the air before summoning an ayakashi. "Come, Ayaki."

"What are you-!" Your eyes widened at what you saw in front of you. A large ayakashi slowly formed under the white one-eyed mask before you.

"Help... (y/n)... Save me..." It called for your name several times asking for you to help.

You couldn't help but tremble as marks of blight started to spread on your skin after the ayakashi took form. You unconsciously dropped Riku while you fell on your knees and stare at the creature in front of you.

"(y/n)! Oi! (y/n)! What happened?! What is that?!" Riku kept on calling you but you just ignore him as if you never heard a single thing from him. Your eyes were only focused on one thing.

The person who changed your life and the one you failed to save.

"H-Haku..."

"Tch. Just when I need him the most he's not around. That damn shorty." You clicked your tongue as you hurriedly ran away from a pack of wolf ayakashis chasing after you.

"Smells good." The pack repeatedly whispered creepily as their eyes glowed while staring at you hungrily.

What's worst is that you got lost in a forest and doesn't know where the exit is. You might also meet another ayakashi while being chased along the way which will be really troublesome for you without a shinki. Spirits aren't frequently around these areas so your chance of survival isn't that high.

'No matter where I'll go, they'll definitely follow me.' You thought  as sweat trickled down your forehead.

One of the ayakashis pounced at you before you dodged it while almost tripping from a rock. Another one almost catched up to you and landed a weak scratch on your leg after you kicked it away.

You desperately breathed for air, hoping that this would end soon before your stamina drained out. 'I can't be killed by some mere ayakashis in this damn forest.'

Several minutes later, you are still running away from (your problems XD jk) the ayakashis. Your stamina running low, legs going numb, and starting to lose hope.

Another wolf pounced at you and successfully bit your shoulder. You loss your balance and fell to the ground as the pack jumped on top of you.

"Someone! Help..." You closed your eyes and waited till the pain you are currently feeling went away. At this moment, you thought about everything you've done till now. You were sure that you'll reincarnate anyway and that it doesn't matter at all if you die here. Your consciousness faded and darkness covered your sight.
