rosey was asked almost a month ago if she wanted to be on a show called weekly idol and she was informed a week ago that she had been invited to join the weekly idol cast for their next episode.
except that it wasn't with her members. she was supposed to go by herself.
when she arrived on set, she noticed a group of boys standing in a corner, talking amongst themselves. a female member of staff approached the girl and whispered to her.
"they probably didn't tell you who you were filming with," the staff explained, "their a harsh production crew, but over there is nct dream!"
rosey's eyes widened. nct dream? they were among her favorite artists. she used to watch them a lot during her training period when they first debuted. she was a fan.
rosey stood behind the working staff as the cameras began to roll. on the white set, she watched as the group of young boys introduced themselves. they, like her, had no idea she would be joining them.
"we have a special guest joining us before we go on today!" one of the older hosts spoke, clapping his hands, "have any of you heard of the rookie group, stray kids?"
the seven boys exchanged glances. of course they knew who the rookie group was because haechan can't stop gushing about their female member. they didn't want to raise their hands; could this be a trick question?
with the hosts past, anything was possible. haechan took advantage of the opportunity to slowly raise his hand, with other following him.
"are any of you familiar with stray kids' rosey?"
"i am," haechan stated.
"you know her personally?" doni and coni exchanged glances.
haechan's cheeks turned bright red, "i don't. i haven't had the chance to speak with her, but i would like to. i am a fan of her singing!"
mark, the group's leader, extends his arms to talk about haechan and his obvious crush.
"haechan is a big fan of her," the boy revealed. haechan tried to hide his smile by looking down at the white floor beneath his feet.
the hosts nodded and motioned for the crew to let rosey onto the set. the young girl approached the boys, bowing as she inched closer. she was too shy to speak to her seniors, but she managed a "hi" as best she could.
there was a small gap between rosey and chenle, who was at the other end of the line with his group. chenle left this space out of respect for her personal bubble.
chenle quickly realized who was standing beside him. lee donghyuck. chenle shuffled behind haechan and made the older boy switch positions with him as the hosts read from the script displayed on the screen behind the cameras.
chenle could only laugh at the older boy when he was finished. chenle definitely counted this as payback for something haechan did to him.
"now, before we continue," coni said, "i actually have a few questions for rosey. you are the only female member of stray kids?"
"i am," rosey said with a nod of her head.
haechan looked at her, unable to make eye contact. with her growing nervousness, she couldn't either. he paused for a moment.
"how do you do it?" haechan asked quietly as the rest of the group began to answer different questions.
rosey raised her head and gazed at him. every time their eyes locked, he averted his gaze. haechan kept turning his head to look at his teammates, then back at the girl next to him.
he asked his question again, this time in a more direct manner.
"how do you work with eight boys when you're the only girl in the group?"
rosey nodded, taking in the question and considering it, while the rest of the boys focused on other words coming out of the host's mouth.
she needed to come up with something clever to say. something simple and understandable. she was frequently asked this question, which she did not enjoy answering on a daily basis.
"it's actually quite simple," she began softly, "they took their time to understand me in the same way i did with them and it flowed smoothly after that."
the conversation the two were having in the side was interrupted when she finished her sentence. coni abruptly inquired of the girl how she had been able to succeed in the survival show in which she had participated.
haechan, like the others, stared at the girl as they waited for her response, but he was admiring her.
she went on to say that it was a lot of mental strain, strenuous vocal lessons, and exhausting performances practices. it wasn't easy and she admitted that she didn't think she stood a chance when she was eliminated.
"that appears to be a very difficult job to take on," doni sympathized.
she nodded in agreement to his words.
coni had some tricked up his sleeve, "rosey, if you had to pick on of these boys to do a duet with, who would you choose?"
the cruel intent behind his words that fans loved and artists despised. rosey was perplexed by the strange question, but she looked over at the boys to decide.
"oh," she exhaled, "i don't think i'd want to pick."
she was afraid of hurting someone's feelings, it wasn't something she took lightly. such a silly question was inflicting on her.
the way her panic was picked up on by the boys her own age. haechan kept looking back and forth between the hosts, rosey, and his members.
he wasn't particularly close to her, but he wanted to be her pick.
"you're not going to hurt our feelings." renjun moved his hands side to side in front of him as he spoke.
haechan would beg to differ. be would be a little hurt if his crush picked someone other than him!
rosey kept her hands linked begging her back, a habit she developed while out in public. it was courteous to her. she leaned forward a little more and returned her gaze to the boys.
she had two nct dream members she wanted to choose. renjun and haechan. their voices were completely different and unique to rosey.
haechan had a different pitch and she thought a duet would be a fun song to listen to with their voices mixing. renjun's voice, which was soft and delicate, she thought would complement her own the best.
"i am very fond of both haechan and renjun's voice, i don't think i could choose between them."
both boy's eyes widened.
renjun was overjoyed when on of the most popular rookie singers chose his voice as one of her favorites. haechan was surprised that his other teammate was chosen alongside him; not that renjun wasn't deserving, but haechan preferred to be the only one.
haechan was practically melting in his own body after hearing that rosey liked his voice. she had him wrapped around her little finger and didn't even realize it.
rosey was overjoyed at the end of the day because she got to meet on of her favorite seniors and play games with them. members of nct dream were happy to have met the shy, but powerful girl. haechan, in particular, was starstruck for the girl, ten times more now that he met her in person.
