My best friend and I were sort of outcasts because we seemed to have a weird hobby that they thought were for 'old guys'. I liked fishing and no-one would convince me otherwise. I mean, it wasn't so crazy that a teenage girl could like fishing. I'd been going since I was thirteen, and Dean had been fourteen. Our dads were good friends so we'd been dragged along – and enjoyed it. This weekend, we were camping as well as fishing from the boat for the first time, for me anyway. It was quite a strange birthday present but the four of us would have fun.

"Come on, Cas, you need to change before we go. At this rate, it's going to be midnight by the time we go." Dean called as I headed out of the school gate. The lucky git was in college and the latest he finished was half an hour before I did. The two of us headed to my dad's car, chatting about how our days had gone. Both my dad and Deans' were waiting in the car so the two of us climbed in the back. I noticed that the middle seat was already out with their fishing rods there. "Onwards, please, driver."

"Don't get funny now, Dean." My dad answered, laughing anyway. We all knew that Dean was a bit of a joker. Well, he tried to be. It didn't always succeed. My dad put the car in gear and drove back to my place.

The four of us headed to the kitchen, where my mother was making some food to last us until Sunday. Of next week. She always made what seemed to be too much food but we always managed to eat it all. My dad walked over to her and kissed her, pinching some of the meat filling while she was distracted.

"Are you sure you don't want to come, mum?" I asked, climbing onto the stool at the breakfast bar so I was facing her. I pinched a grape from the fruit bowl as she turned around to look at me, knife in hand to cut up the sandwiches.

"No, thank you. Fishing is not something that I enjoy like you and your father do." She replied, turning and smacking my father's hand away before he could take all the fillings. Then she turned back to me. "Shouldn't you go and get change before it gets too late?"

"Yes. I'll be right back." I told everyone, grabbing another grape as I bounced down and headed up to my room. I changed out of my uniform and into jeans, a t-shirt and my hoodie. It would be comfortable enough for the long car ride. Then, I grabbed my holdall and started heading from my room, almost walking into Dean. "Hey. You don't have to wait for me up here, you know."

"I know, but I thought I'd be a gentleman and carry your bag down for you." He explained, taking the hold all from me and realising how heavy it was. "Geez, Cas, what have you got in there? An anvil?"

"No! Just a book or two to read in the car or whenever." I answered, heading past him. "You know how heavy my books can be because I like reading longer books, and I think the two of them are both hardbacks so that doesn't help. Are you sure it's not too heavy for you? Shall I carry it for you?"

"No, I can manage. Just be careful that I don't drop it on you." Dean joked as we headed back down to the kitchen, dumping my bag by the front door. He turned to me and gestured to the bag. "Remind me never to offer to carry your bag again."

"If I remember." I replied with a smile, sitting down next to him and pulled some more grapes from the fruit bowl. I had full-on munchies. It must be nearing THAT time of the month. That wouldn't be good. Sometimes, I lost consciousness because of it. I hoped I would wait the two nights. Then again, I didn't want to deal with that in school either. "So, what is the plan for the weekend?"

"We'll get to the lake and pitch the tents. Then it's bed early. Up early and we'll spend the day fishing on the boat. Sunday will be a little bit of fishing off the dock before packing up and coming home." My dad told us. The whole trip had been planned well and I couldn't wait. I'd never fished from a boat before. It would be really interesting!
