I headed into the DVD rental place and resisted the urge to pick up a horror movie to watch at my birthday slumber party with Amy. That wouldn't be a good idea since she hated horror movies but I could give her the creeps by borrowing one along with a nice romantic comedy movie. She didn't even know that I liked horror movies. I didn't mind watching a romantic comedy movie for my birthday just to have a good evening.
Still, I couldn't help but head over to the horror section of the store, spotting a couple of new titles that I really wanted to see. I was tempted to rent a horror movie and just watch it after Amy had gone home. It would work out cheaper to rent two movies this weekend instead of one this weekend and one next weekend.
Plus, I didn't actually have anything new to watch tomorrow night. It was stupid that my parents worked on a Saturday night – and it sucked that they couldn't get my birthday off. I decided that I was going to grab a horror movie while I was here. It couldn't hurt. I just had to pick one that I wanted to watch. There was so much choice.
After some deliberation, I reached out and grabbed one of the films that I knew was on my 'to watch' list. I had actually loved the look of the trailer, but none of my friends liked horror movies so I hadn't been able to go to the cinema to see it while it was there. I couldn't help but stay to look at some of the other titles that I hadn't seen before – I'd have to check out the trailers when I got home. I made a note of the titles on my phone to make sure that I wouldn't forget them.
"Damn, the copy of 'The Nightmare Personified' has been rented out already." I heard a guy say from beside me. I almost jumped because I was surprised. I hadn't noticed anyone else come into the horror movie area. I glanced down at the horror movie in my hand, the one he wanted, and felt a little bad, but I had been wanting to watch it for months.
"Not that it matters because the movie we're here for is 'Fast and Furious'. I hate the fact that you hate horror movies and have to drag me here every time. You know that I don't like horror movies." A second guy replied. I recognised the second voice and turned to see one of my classmates standing next to an older guy. Callum, my classmate, saw me and gave me a little smile. "Hi, Maddie, I didn't know that you liked horror movies."
"I actually quite enjoy them." I admitted, giving him a small smile. I didn't really talk to Callum that much, so, it was strange to be having this conversation. "I'm sorry that I just picked up the store's last copy of 'The Nightmare Personified'. It's just that I've been dying to see it."
"It's fine. Why don't we just watch it together?" Callum's friend asked me, giving me a smile from behind Callum. I kind of smiled back at him. I found it a little funny that he was inviting himself to watch the movie with me.
"Maddie, please, excuse my idiotic older brother." Callum told me. He gave his brother a little tap on the back of the head. "Will you please just pick a movie and so we can go? Also, stop embarrassing me."
"Fine, spoil-sport." His brother answered, looking at some movies. Then, he turned to me and smiled. "It was nice meeting you today, Maddie."
"It was nice to meet you, too, uh..." I suddenly realised that I didn't even know his name.
"I'm Josh." He laughed.
"It was nice to meet you, Josh." I smiled. "It's good to see you, Callum."
I headed over to the romance movies to look for one I knew that Amy and I had definitely not seen. I glanced over and saw that Callum and Josh had headed over to the action section. Probably looking for the movie that they had mentioned before.
I looked at the romantic comedy movies and decided that I could pick up a couple of them for tonight with Amy. She was going to have to pick between the two of them, but knowing her she would want to watch both. I wouldn't really mind. I preferred horror movies, but I could easily enjoy a romantic comedy movie.
