I woke up on my birthday with a string on my finger. I quickly dressed and headed out, wondering who could be at the end of my string and glad that it wasn't a school day. Would they be someone from my school? As I walked, I got a call from my best friend and explained to her what I was doing. I was really excited about finding out who was at the end of my string. I had been waiting for this for as long as I could remember.

My string led me to the local outdoor shop that sold all outdoor equipment. I took a deep breath before heading inside. Would I know the person at the end of my string? I hoped that I did. I couldn't see anyone that I recognized as I followed the string, weaving through the aisles. I didn't think that there was anyone that I recognized in the whole store. I had never been in the store before. I turned the corner with my string, seeing a member of staff talking to two women about horse rugs. My string led to his finger.

I didn't even recognize him, so, how was it possible that he was the guy at the end of the string. Could it work when we didn't know anything about it each other? Not even our names! I needed to talk to him. That would be the best way to start things, wouldn't it? I would need to wait until he finished speaking with the customers, so, I decided to wait at the end of the aisle, spotting a telescope that was on sale. I started looking at it, reading the specifications of the telescope.

"Hello, can I help you?" A voice asked, making me jump a little. From what I've heard of the voice, it was a nice voice that I could listen to quite a lot. I looked to see the guy at the end of my string. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I mean, I saw the string and thought that I should be the one to help you."

"Thank you. I noticed the string and thought that I should wait for you to finish with those customers." I replied. I didn't know what to talk about. How could I ask him questions when he was in work? "Um, is that telescope any good? I've always wanted to go stargazing but I've never got around to it."

"Well, do you want to go tomorrow? We could go camping the same time. If you wouldn't mind. I think it would be a great way to get to know each other and spend some good quality time together." He rambled. So, it seemed like I wasn't the only one that was nervous. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. He gestured to the telescope. "I have one of these in the house and I finish at 5 tomorrow. I know the perfect spot where we can camp out and stargaze for the night. Would you like to come with me?"

"That actually sounds wonderful. I would love to, but my parents may not agree to it. I'll have to ask them." I explained. "How about I ask my parents and then meet you here when you finish work tomorrow?"

"That sounds great. I finish at five, so, I shall see you then?" He questioned.

"Sounds fantastic." I answered, tucking some of my hair behind my ear. It then reminded me that I didn't even know his name. I checked his chest, not seeing a name badge. I would need to ask him. "Um, I'm Isabelle, by the way."

"Nice to meet you, Isabelle, I'm Oscar." He spoke, reaching out hand. We shook hands and then his manager called for him to get back to work. I smiled at him and headed from the store, going home.

When I reached home, I found my parents already sitting comfortably in the living room. My mum and dad were sitting together, watching a movie that I had already seen a dozen times. They still loved it, though. "Isabelle, happy birthday! How come you're late home from school?"

"I followed my string on the way home from school since it was no-one in school." I explained, sitting in the chair that I had claimed as my own. "He is extremely handsome, he has a job at the outdoors store and he has asked me out on our first date tomorrow, which is a camping and stargazing trip tomorrow. I would very much like to go."
