I ate my tea at the hotel restaurant on a little stool in the corner of the kitchen by myself. It wasn't too weird for me to be eating my food alone since both of my parents were working here and I would either be eating alone here or in the flat that we had in the hotel. Well, they didn't just work here because they actually owned the place. Plus, Sebastian made the best food that I had ever tasted, so, I'd rather eat his food here than something my parents had left me to microwave. My parents had been very lucky to get him as a head chef at the hotel. "Will you hurry up?"
"You know I like savouring the taste of your cooking." I replied to Sebastian. At twenty-four, he was really young and had only been working here for a year but he was the best out of all the applicants. He actually cooked the best food that I had ever tasted but he always tried to make me rush it so I would get out of his way.
"Can you start eating in the actual restaurant and not in the kitchen?" Sebastian asked. He still handed me a glass of water to go with my food as I put another fork full in my mouth. Even though he seemed to hate me, he always accommodated me, which meant that he wasn't all bad. Even if he did act like it.
"Too many people out there. I can't believe how popular this place became after you started working here." I told him, trying to make him like me a little bit. It had gotten really busy, and some people only came to eat in the restaurant and not use the actual rooms. I had even overheard some people say that they only came to eat Sebastian's food, and to get a look at him. Even I had to admit that he as a little good looking. My parents didn't mind that people only came for the restaurant – it payed the bills. "Plus, it's my birthday so you should let me get away with it. At least for today."
"I know that your birthday isn't until tomorrow. I'm cooking your food for the birthday meal." Sebastian countered. I was really looking forward to the meal with my parents and my younger brother, who was always with his nanny so I didn't see him too much. Sebastian usually had Sundays off since it was actually the quietest evening of the week. "It's supposed to be my day off but your dad asked me to work since you love my food so much. He wanted to let you eat my cooking as a birthday treat. Is there anything in particular that you want to eat tomorrow?"
"Your homemade chocolate fudge brownie." I replied after a moment of thinking Sebastian made the best chocolate fudge brownie that I had ever tasted, and I had tried a few since it was my favourite dessert. Sebastian's had knocked every other one out of the park, including my mother's. Then I thought that it might be too much to request the day before. "If it's not too much trouble, of course."
"Not at all." He answered, taking my empty plate before I had a chance to move it to the sink. He always did that. He went back to making food immediately and I couldn't help but watch him. I didn't know why I found it fascinating to watch him work, but it was a bad habit that I had fallen into since he had started working here. I was lucky to be able to stay for another ten minutes before he seemed to notice that I was still there. "Don't you have a home to go to?"
"Maybe, but what time do you finish?" I questioned, pulling my phone out and checking the time. There was a film I wanted to see in the cinema a little walk away. I might be able to get him to come with me if I asked nice enough. It was unlikely but my parents would not let me go alone and he would be my best option.
"Eight. I get to go an hour earlier because I'm working tomorrow." He told me while serving two more meals and calling the waiter with a wave of his hand. Then, he checked the next order to make sure he was going to be plating up the right thing. "If you're going to ask me to go and see that movie then I'll go with you. What time is the showing?"
"Half past eight. I'll meet you in the lobby when your shift ends?" I suggested, extremely happy that he had put the suggestion out there. He probably only said it because it was my birthday, or I had talked about it enough to my parents that they had thought to ask him for me. Judging by the time now, I would have plenty of time to go home and change into something nice. I always liked to look nice when I went places. I could grab some stuff in the shops down the street to take, too. Cinemas were expensive for snacks. The ticket prices weren't too bad, but the snack prices were where they made their money.
