Chapter 9.

~Ranka: Kyoya? Are you there?

Kyoya: I'm here Ranka-San...

There was silence for a moment.

Kyoya: Ranka-San...?

~Ranka: I-Is Haruhi with you...?

Kyoya felt a little surprised. He pulled the phone away for a moment.

Kyoya: Should I tell him you're here?

Haruhi hesitated before nodding.

Kyoya: Yes, she's here...

~Ranka: D-does she want to talk to me...?

Kyoya: A-actually we talked about that yesterday... and, yes I think she wants to talk to you...

~Ranka: C-Can you please hand the phone to her...? I want to talk too...

Kyoya looked at Haruhi before handing the phone to her. Haruhi nervously picked up the phone and held it to her ear.

Haruhi: A-... D-...

Haruhi kept going quiet when she tried to speak, Haruhi internally pleaded that this wasn't another panic attack coming on. Haruhi relaxed a bit when she felt Kyoya hug her.

Haruhi: "What do I even say...?"

Haruhi took a deep, quiet breath.

Haruhi: H-hi dad...

~Ranka: Haruhi...? H-have you been doing alright...? None of your friends have called me since...

Haruhi: I-I'm okay...

Haruhi noticed that Ranka sounded like he'd been crying.

Haruhi: D-dad are you okay...?

~Ranka: Y-... n-no...

Haruhi: Dad...?

~Ranka: Haruhi I-... I-I'm Sorry...

Haruhi's eyes widened with surprise.

Haruhi: Huh...? I-I thought you...?

~Ranka: Haruhi I regret everything I did after we found out about the pregnancy... I should have treated you better than that... Life's been hell since I kicked you out, I can't stop myself from crying every time I think of you... I-I just want my daughter back...

Haruhi heard her dad crying on the other end, even feeling a tear going down her cheek as well. What her dad had just told her was the last thing she expected. Not that she minded at all, she missed her dad too, despite what had happened. Even when that was the case her brain could still barely comprehend what he'd said.

Kyoya: Haruhi...?

Haruhi looked up at Kyoya and smiled.

Haruhi: I-I miss you too dad...

Kyoya could hardly hear what Ranka was saying but already knew based on Haruhi's reaction and smiled.
Three Nights Later
Taro: Hikaru? Is something wrong? You've been looking upset the entire time we've been here...

Hikaru looked down.

Taro: Hikaru...?

Hikaru paused before speaking.

Hikaru: I... I found out several months ago that Kaoru and I were going to be parents...

Taro tilted his head.

Taro: Is something wrong with that...? That sounds like great news...

Hikaru tried holding back his tears.
