I have been used to bullying, and I could tell that Annie was, too. We would find notes in our lockers, have ugly pictures taken of us and even sometimes have our stuff stolen. Today was the prom day,and for the first time,I actually went there without faking an illness or pretending to be injured. Annie told me that she had a boyfriend in her old school (shocker)and that they used to go to the prom together. She told me how fun it was,all the dances, and snacks(I was pretty excited about that part). I have to be honest,Annie was more self confident than I thought she was, actually. She had a lively and funny personality. I told her that I wasn't surprised that she had a boyfriend since she was so pretty. She stared at me for a moment, but it wasn't a cold stare. It was sort of like she was trying to talk through her eyes. She suddenly grinned and told me that her boyfriend was blind. There was nothing more to be said.

For the first time I felt that we were communicating in a better way than words with her.. Also for the first time,I didn't feel like a foreigner. It was as if she was my tour guide, showing me how to live. The little jokes she made through her signs always made me smile, reminding me how lucky I was to be with her. When it was finally prom night,Annie's mom picked us up. I looked at Annie. She looked absoultely stunning. Her gown-like but simple swamp green dress was delicately decorated by a few simple gold leaf patterns and her hair, naturally straight, was enhanced even more. She had makeup on,a pale pink lipstick and mascara on her beautiful lashes. Then I looked at myself,I was wearing a velvety violet dress, with silver studs here and there. My hair, was put into a neat bun and secured with a silver butterfly pin. I,too, had makeup. A blue eyeliner, some mascara and blush. Annie and I,at the same time, signalled to eachother that we looked gorgeous. I giggled. When her mom finally dropped us over, nobody knew who we were. All the boys were arguing about who was going to dance with us first. Everything was absoulutely perfect,it was as if nothing could go wrong...
