The next morning I went to school,I wasn't only greeted by Annie. Marie came rushing up to me,and hugged me. I wasn't expecting that... "Hey Lilac! I'm so excited that you guys are coming over today! Should we plan it out? What should we do? I'm so excited!"
She seemed so shy... What is happening?
I didn't want to break her heart,so I simply played along, just like Annie. I somehow explained that w needed to go to class. She nodded cheerfully.Marie looked at us,flashed a phony smile, and waved as we went. Creepy.
We were silent at first, but couldn't help secretly judging her through stares. She was like one of those kids who seem shy,but then suck out all your life energy by being so overly dependent to you. I never thought I would have to make the desicion to reject someone, but hey,I never thought I'd have a friend either. As we walked to our classroom,we realised how late we were. 15 minutes! While we were going up the stairs, three girls stopped us. "Hey! Watch where you're going! Oh great, you messed my manicure up!" The girl waved herhandsin front of us. Suddenly, she made a move forward and grabbed my tablet. Giggling, she said: "Well, you're not getting this back!" I tried to grab it,but she quickly jumped back, and dissapeared out of sight. Annie put her hand on my shoulder as we were slowly walking up. I was crying. We decided that we were going to the nurse. Lucky for us,it was the last lesson and the nurse's office was right next to our class. "Well,well... What have we got here?" The nurse chanted,it was obvious that she was on her happy side. Annie pointed to her knee, and as the nurse took a closer look we noticed the nasty scar, and blood. She got her knee bandaged, and the nurse did me a favor by putting some bandages on my forehead, dabbing it with medicine so it looked real. I managed to somehow thank her,and she winked back. Just in time,as we were walking out, the bell rang. Out of nowhere,Marie dashed towards us, getting super excited. She told us how much fun we were going to have, how her class was right next to ours, yadda yadda... She went to pack her bag,and we saw Mr. Brown coming towards us. He saw the bandages and didnt even bother to ask what had happened. All the teachers in the school knew sign language, thank god for the nurse that she was kind enough to give me bandages.
He lowered his voice tone:"You know,Marie has hyperactivity... This is the only school that you can find in this area for disabled kids,so just keep that in mind." He had said that last part so mockingly that I felt like it was a crime to be friends with Marie. We packed our bags, and grudgingly headed towards Marie's bus. The bus ride was a torture. Marie told us every single detail of her life, stopping at every event and explaing it. She was dropped off last, which was a bummer considering that she would not shut up.
We were finally dropped off at her house, and that's how everything really started...
