The early morning air was crisp as the snow crackled and crunched under her small white paws. Her pads were cold to the touch and her small body could almost blend into the snow except for her all black head and few black markings. The only thing that could be heard in this early morning was the steady heartbeat of the female Jack Russell Terrier and the only thing to be seen was the icey cool breath that came from her. All was calm and steady. No disturbances no action. Just peace.
The female continued on her search for food as she was losing weight. Winter had brought her quite a loss of food in which caused her to lose the weight she worked so hard to keep on her slim body. Her paws hit the pavement with a click as she slipped behind the tall buildings of the busy city she called home. She soon found the dark alley as most call it. Not many humans went back there because of the lack of lighting in the area, but for strays like herself it was a gold mine. She wandered in cautiously her ears down and tail down. She then sunk down low and practically crawled into a near by trash can. Nothing but leftover burger buns and lettuce. Disgusting. She need some real meat in her system in order to gain weight and survive this harsh winter. She ate the burger buns, but left the lettuce to continue rotting in hell where it belonged. She trotter out of the dark Alley thankful she didn't run into any other strays.
Her journey continued down the pavement ignoring all the humans who yell and snap at her calling her a mutt. She was used to this it never really affected her as she had her own thoughts on the humans. She spotted the park in which she slept in most nights and practically ran to it. To her surprise a small black and brown dog came running from underneath "her bench" snarling and snapping its jaws. It didn't seem very skilled with fighting as its hackles weren't raised and his paws were in the wrong placements. "I suggest you move out of my way and away from my bench" she said sternly but not in to harsh of a way as she could tell this pup was a new street dog. The male cocked his head his one ear flopping over almost covering his eye. "I don't see your name imprinted anywhere on this bench" he stated of more of a question. She growled becoming more annoyed with this mutt. "Listen here my scent is all over this bench as I have been sleeping here for the past week. If you need my name imprinted on it. Then come over here and I'll imprint my name on you" she threatened taking a step closer to him causing the male to back up his ears going down. He whimpered and began to shake uncontrollably. "S-Sorry ma'am" the male replied his voice sounding like a small pup. The female snorted in reply and went around him and curled up under the bench as it began to snow again.
The male didn't leave although he laid down in front of the bench and just stared at the female causing her to groan in annoyance. She just wanted to be left alone that's all she wanted. She lifted her head from her paws and looked at the male once more. "What do you want?" She stated calmly trying to remain calm and not snap his head off. Not yet at least. Completely ignoring her question his tongue lolled out of his mouth and he asked another question on top of her question. "What's your name?" He asked curiosity clear in his eyes. She sighed but decided to answer him as maybe he would go away after she answered his pathetic question. "Raven." She stated in a rather bored tone hoping he would get the idea that she want to be left alone.
His tail picked up and began to wag as he smiled brightly "Cool! My name is Bronx!" He yipped at her in a playful manner. She nodded acting like maybe she cared but in reality she didn't really.
A sudden crash could be heard from the opposite side of the park causing Raven to look around in a panicked matter. She crawled from underneath the bench and shook the snow from her fur. Her eyes widened at what she saw. The big box truck with a man standing outside of it. In his hand was a long metal pole with a small thin wire attached to the end of it. Her heartbeat began to increase as she stared at Bronx with a panicked expression. "What's wrong?" He asked completely clueless of what was happening. She growled annoyed and panicked. "Run as fast as you can get out of here! I'll distract him, but whatever you do don't turn around and don't come back for me. Now go!" She snapped at him before charging at the man. She grabbed ahold of his stick and began to thrash it around as he pulled her off the ground still attached to the stick. She growled still holding on. The man yanked her off the stick and slipped around her as she snapped at him snarling. Her teeth bared and hackles raised. He grabbed a small basket looking thing from his pocket and strapped into her face. She howled and whined as she got thrown into the back of the box truck. All that could be seen was the disappearance of the park and the small brown and black dog sitting on her bench with a sad expression. The park got smaller and smaller as she was taken to the one place she swore she would never end up in. The pound.
