Two years had passed since L had given birth to Sophia. L had changed her mind and kept her daughter instead of giving her up for adoption. Her mind changed as soon as she held her for the first time.
''It's a feeling you'll never understand unless you're a mother'', she would explain to family and friends when they used to visit her. She had pasted all the cards on her walls to remind her how much her baby was appreciated. Once when Sophia coughed, she held the sky on her head. She yelled at her maid for letting the door open.
L joined college two months after Sophia was born. She would rush everyday to get home and spend the rest of her day with her daughter. She sang to her every night until Sophia would fall asleep.
Her ex had't showed up and it all made sense when her mom told her he was in jail. But that didn't affect her. Not anymore. She didn't let her daughter feel the need of a father. Her life had never been better but part of her did miss him... did miss Ben. He had moved away to a town an hour away from where they lived, with his father. He shifted into a college there, just to get away from all the distractions- according to L.
L thought it was better this way. She didn't want to burden him with her and Sophia. She wondered if he would accept her if they were together. L would always wonder how he was doing. Had he moved on? was he in love?
On the other hand Ben was the one who had made the decision to move to his father. Right after Sophia was born, his grandmother past away. He thought there was no reason for him to stay there. And so he moved with his father and helped him with work. Things got better there. The house was better and they ate better. He was able to replace his old car with a brand new one.
After two years he still couldn't move on. No one was prettier than L, no one was funnier than her, no one was as different as her. But he forced himself not to meet her. He knew L would never allow him into her life.
One day he was laying on the floor, staring at the stars. Wondered if L was looking at the same stars. That's when his father came and sat besides him.
''go get her''. That's all the encouragement he needed. He had suppressed his feelings for two years and couldn't do it anymore.
He sat in his car, not caring that it was two am at night. He drove straight to her house and reached there at about three am.
'oh no I forgot to get her chocolates'. He thought to himself
'your'e not here to visit her idiot. You're here to tell her how you feel at three am in the morning', another voice said.
He looked at L's window and then at the ladder beside it. He knew what to do. It was time for his inner Romeo to come out. He climbed through the ladder to the window and tapped lightly on it. L opened the curtains and let out a scream. She put her hands on her mouth and opened the window to let him in
''Ben! what on earth are you doing here?!'', she asked.
''I need to tell you something''.
''me too'', L said.
She was interrupted by Sophia's crying. She picked her up and started rubbing her back and calmed her down. But then L noticed the resemblance between them and eyed both of them, squinting.
''your baby has the same eyes as me!''
