Molly's P.O.V
Things were better between me and Tom but they were sort of weird too. We never brought up the night we'd spent together again. Things went back to how they'd been at the start of this arrangement.
We just practised every day. But we also hung out like we were friends. Like real, actual friends. We'd talk about things we didn't feel like we could talk to anyone else about, mainly our completely fucked up families. We'd listen to cassettes of our favourite bands in my room or his, he'd help me do homework sometimes or sometimes we'd even watch a movie. Then he'd take me home. Every night after school that had become my new routine. And rather worryingly I looked forward to the end of each day more and more. Because then I got to see him.
It was innocent and...nice. And that was completely terrifying. How could I be becoming friends with Tom DeLonge? The most fucking obnoxious band boy in town? Well because now that I was starting to get to know him...he wasn't like that at all actually. Anď that complicated things.
It was Saturday night and Tom was having another party which against my better judgement I'd agreed to go to.
I reapplied my lipstick in Sarah's rear view mirror. I could feel her staring.
I turned to her.
"What?"
Sarah sighed.
"I don't think this is a good idea. And I mean I can't be your wingwoman tonight."
I rolled my eyes.
"Relax. I'm not going to sleep with him. Promise. I don't do sloppy seconds. Thanks, but I'm good."
Sarah bit her lip.
"You've been spending a lot of time together."
I shrugged.
"So? We just hang out and watch movies and shit."
Sarah's eyes widened and she smiled.
"You like him."
I felt my face heat as I thought of Tom. His warm brown eyes. Freckles. His smile. His laugh. Versace blue jeans. Warm arms. The fuzzy hairs around his navel. The gentle way he held my hand as we watched meteors on the hood of his car. Arguing together. Laughing together. I liked being with him. I...liked him. Oh no. My heart pounded. How the fuck had I let this happen?!
"No. It's more like...acceptance."
Her smile widened.
"Liar. I know you. He's different. You're different with him. You've never been like this with any other guy. You never gave them the chance... Why don't you just give him a chance?"
I felt my stomach flip.
"Because I'll hurt him." I whispered.
Sarah gave me a sympathetic laugh.
"Molly-"
I hugged her tight cutting off her kind words.
"Thanks for the ride. I'll see you tomorrow for practise."
I gave her a reassuring wave but she was still watching me worriedly.
I was nervous as I knocked on the door. Mark hugged me as he opened the door.
I held him back and he pushed a beer can into my hand as he pulled back.
"Hey! You made it. Awesome. What's new with you? You know other than stealing my guitarist for your own band?" He teased.
