A Million Dreams

Inspired by 'A Million Dreams' from The Greatest Showman😍😍😍I know the movie came out like two years ago now, but I just recently watched it and it's so heartwarming/breaking😍😍

This one-shot is a really different style (still trying things out😉) so please feel free to tell me if you like it or not! Also, if I'm honest, this isn't even much Rykey 😂

This is my life. Watching my mom being beaten up by my dad, then getting beaten myself. And then getting beaten up at school, because I love music. Life is unfair, but I'm fine, I've gotten used to my dreams being crushed. Nobody would want a weak, frail, skinny boy, who knows he can't sing, but does anyway.

 But dreams are dreams, and they don't just disappear so easily.

I close my eyes and I can see
The world that's waiting up for me
That I call my own
Through the dark, through the door
Through where no one's been before
But it feels like home

My mom signed me up for a singing program for the summer, so I could get away from home for a while. I felt like I was flying as I sung on stage in front of the other students and the instructors. I loved every second of it, but then, I went back to school and home. The second I walked through the door of my home, my dad grabbed a belt and whipped me with it. I didn't even cry, I was used to it. Again and again was I told that I was wasting everyone's time by even opening my mouth and uttering a single when I went back to school, but my mom's encouraging eyes when I sang to her kept my hope strong, and I continued to sing.

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say I've lost my mind
I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy
We can live in a world that we design

I signed up for the talent show at our school after my music teacher had talked to me after I had volunteered to sing in front of the class. I was laughed at, but she told me that I had a special gift, and suggested the talent show. I had so badly wanted to soar again, so I agreed. Before I knew it, I was singing 'This Is Me' from the Greatest Showman in front of the whole school. 

As I sang the last words, I was shocked that the boos from the crowd were overtaken by applause. Many people were stood up and were shouting words of encouragement, and words of praise. For the first in a long time, I smiled. And happy tears filled my eyes. 

That night I fell asleep with a smile on my bruised face.

'Cause every night I lie in bed

I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it's gonna take
A million dreams for the world we're gonna make

The next day, I was thrown against the lockers right as I entered the school.

Disgusting, they screamed. 

Get out of our lives, they growled as they kicked me. 

I opened my eyes for a second to see a fist heading for my face. I squeezed my eyes shut, ready for the pain.

It never came.

I slowly blinked open my eyes and saw someone staring down with soft, blue eyes at me. A hand reaches out, and I stare as it lands in front me. There was a boy standing in front of me, his hand reaching out to help me up. I hesitated but eventually took it. 

He helped me up gently, and said six words that would change my life.

'We want you in our band. '

There's a house we can build
Every room inside is filled
With things from far away
The special things I compile
Each one there to make you smile
On a rainy day  

They invited me to their studio, telling me to try out my new equipment. I was amazed by the fancy high-tech equipment they could afford. He could tell how amazed I was. He asked me why I was so surprised. I was startled, and didn't know how to reply.

'Its okay. You can tell us. We won't let anyone judge you anymore.'  He reassured. I stared deep into his eyes. I saw concern, certainty and determination, he actually cared. I told them. 

The band was my home. After they learned about my situation at home, they went to my house with me and confronted my dad. He got hit multiple times, and I screamed to try and stop it, but he continued to fight for me. Andy called the police and they took my dad away. He was in pain, I felt so guilty. But as he struggled to stand up, I saw the triumph in his eyes as he turned to look at me. I ran over to him and pulled him into a hug.

He actually cared.

Runaway to a world that we design

We decided to buy a house. And decided that we would build a studio inside it, so that we didn't have to move from place to place. They other boys invited my mom to live with us, she thanked them with tears in her eyes, as did I.

We dreamed of become the biggest band in the world.

However big, however small

He told me that no matter what we went through, we would always go through it together and that I should never feel alone or be afraid, because we would take over the world together. 

I'd been told to give up my entire life, and now I was here.

I still have a long way to go, but I with the best people supporting me and being there with me every step, I'm so grateful. And most of all, Mikey, because of all he's gone through for me.
