Only moments passed by before Evelina awoke. Those brief few seconds felt like an eternity. She wasn't expecting to see Davy sitting next to her. He was uncomfortably close. She scanned the room quickly. It was eerily quiet. "Wh— where's Joey?"

"You're not even the least bit worried about your ex? Tsk tsk, little working girl." Davy methodically ran his fingers over a six-inch pocketknife. The knife glimmered in the warehouse's dim lighting.

Ev pushed herself away from him. "Where are they? Tell me where they are!" She screamed at him, unable to hold herself back.

"They're safe." Davy watched her — analyzed her. "For now."

"What do you mean for now? What are you planning on doing to us?" She was trembling, unsure whether it was from fear or anger. Her insides were twisting from both emotions. The reality of the situation shook her being. The uncertainty was nauseating.

Davy looked back down at his knife. A smile toyed at his lips, but it wouldn't quite reveal itself. He stood up and pinned her with a look. He reached down for her hand, patiently waiting for her to grab it.

Ev hesitated. There was no reason for him to be gentle with her. There was no reason for her to trust him. For a brief few seconds, though, there was a genuine gentleness in his eyes.

"What I'm planning on doing right now is talk to you." He said calmly; peaceably. His hand twitched a little bit in a way to coax her up.

Ev swallowed slowly, letting her eyes dash up between his hand and his face. She was all right with reading people, but it was hard to tell what was hiding in the eyes of a psychopath. They weren't exactly forthcoming with their opinions. Sure, Davy was pretty boastful, but it didn't mean that he'd always reveal all of the cards he held in his hands. Cautiously, she brought her hand up and let him pull her to her feet. "What do you want to talk about?"

Davy folded up his knife, sliding it into his pocket. He walked toward the other side of the room. "Do you want anything to drink?"

Ev couldn't stop her brows from rising in surprise. Do I want anything? She couldn't believe what she was hearing. It was like a completely different person was talking to her. She shook her head. "I don't want anything to drink. I want Joey and Zach and to get out of this place. I want you to let us go."

Davy stared at her, as if weighing out what she was saying was an important trademark. He was studying her; seeing how she'd react to different things. A twitch in his brow made it clear he wasn't pleased with her answer. He didn't get angry though. "Suit yourself, working girl."

There was no way of truly knowing what the man was thinking about. It scared Ev to know that his mind could be twisting around some form of torture for them. She didn't say anything though. One wrong word could push him off the deep end, creating a catastrophe that didn't need to be created.

"I'm sure my brother warned you about me. In fact, I know that he had pushed you away." He slowly walked over to her, clearly weighing out his thoughts. He was curious. "Yet here we are — in-laws. Why did you go back to him?"

Thoughts of Rose flooded Ev's mind. She couldn't think about her though. She swallowed away the thoughts; terrified that Davy would be able to figure them out. He probably knew about their daughter already if he kept tabs on them, but there was no need to remind him about her. There was no need to lie to Davy though about how she did feel about his brother. "I love Joey. There's no way I could stay away from him."
