"Nakita!" Jimmy yelled. It was too late though. Anton's bullet hit her. She clutched her stomach and dropped to the ground, wide eyed from shock. He pulled his weapon up and aimed. One target, one shot. He didn't miss. The bullet zipped through the air and dropped Anton.

Joey was nowhere in sight. Davy had gotten out the back with a few of his other men at his heels. Jimmy gave Peter the signal to trail them. "Take as many casualties as you can. Don't let them get away, and don't get caught!"

He ran over to Nakita's side, sliding to his knees in the process. He pulled his full focus to the woman. He ripped her shirt open to get a better look at the wound.

Nakita grabbed arm, clutching it tightly. A pained smile barely lit up her face. "If you wanted me that bad, Jimmy, you could have just asked me on a date."

Jimmy's face didn't reflect the humor. His brows were knit together. He briefly looked at her before looking back at the wound. Analyzing it. "If you'd promise to go on a date with me."

Nakita was wheezing, but she was still staying with him. "I thought you would never ask."

"This isn't the time to be joking around, Kita." He glanced up at her briefly, but returned his gaze back to the wound. The blood was coming out too fast.

"I am not joking, Jimmy. I am dead serious." She pinned him with a look proving her point with no room for interpretation. She meant what she said.

He stopped what he was doing and looked up at her. Confusion lined his strict face. "I didn't think you'd want to go out with someone like me."

"What would make you say that?" Nakita swallowed hard. She could taste the blood creeping up her throat. Not even the swallowing motion would keep it down.

Jimmy pulled off his shirt and stuffed it into the hole in Nakita's gut. He'd seen the wound before. There was already blood pooling up everywhere. The bullet had hit an artery. There wasn't much he could do for her but keep her comfortable and wait. He swallowed hard, blinking away the water filling up his eyes. He shook his head, pulling his focus back to her pained face. "You know who I am, what I've done. Why would you want someone like me to taint you?"

Nakita looked stunned. "You have to be kidding. You really do not know anything about me, do you?"

Jimmy shook his head. He reached an arm underneath her and pulled her close to him, cradling her body. "You are a beautiful, intelligent woman. I'm tainted. I'm bad news."

Nakita choked down a laugh. Blood had begun seeping down the side of her lip. "Now I know you are full of it. I was the best sniper in my unit. If you think you have even come close to the number of kills I have under my belt than you are crazy. I am not the perfect woman you think I am. I have scars... and my own demons."

Jimmy swallowed back his shock. He had been completely oblivious to her feelings for him. "I had no idea."

"Because you did not take the time to ask." Nakita arched a brow. Her seriousness broke into a smile. "It is okay, though. I was not as forthcoming as I could have been. You are a good man, Jimmy." She rubbed his arm.

He looked down at her hand moving across his skin. It was warm, soft. It melted him. His voice broke. "You're going to be alright, Kita."

She choked out another laugh. It sounded like death warmed over, not the sweetness that he'd become accustomed to from her. "Now I really know you are full of it. Do not lie to yourself. It is okay."
