A couple of sirens could be heard in the distance. As they neared the house, two cars that had looked abandoned started up and drove away quickly. Jimmy figured that they were probably Davy's men. He made a mental note of how many were in the vehicles and every feature that made those vehicles stand out. He was trained to do that so it was easy to lock away that information. He'd deal with them in time.

Jimmy let out a hot breath through his nostrils as the police drove up the street. "They're not supposed to be here." He redialed the last number on the phone quickly.

"Is the line secure?" He paused and waited for a second. "The locals are here. What do you want me to do?" He listened while watching out the side of the window. "It could get messy."

Jimmy shot a quick glance over at Jacob. Jacob stood waiting for further instructions. He was ready to react in whatever way was necessary.

"We'll get it done." Jimmy nodded and hung up the phone.

"We've gotta move fast." He grabbed a pillow and walked past Ev, not making eye contact. "Ev, get rid of the dishes on the table. Make it look like only two of us were eating. Jacob, get the doctor out the back. Make sure he's got everything that would be suspicious to the cops. We need to clean this up fast." Determination lit up his face as he came up with a fast plan.

"Jimmy?" Ev stared at the pillow in his hand. The air felt thick, tense.

He threw the pillow down after realizing he didn't need it. He pulled out a silencing device and screwed it onto his revolver, walking over to Davy's accomplice. The man's eyes revealed he knew what was going to happen to him. He didn't look scared, just enraged.

"Jimmy, what are you doing?" Evelina knew what he was about to do, but the question still slipped from her lips. She watched — waited — for a different response to come from him.

"Ev, clean up the kitchen." He made it clear he didn't want an argument.

Ev shot up from her chair and grabbed his arm. "Jimmy, don't! There's gotta be a different way."

He paused and looked back at her, pulling his arm free of her grip. "Ev, I'm not going to argue with you about this. This is business. It's what needs to happen. Besides, he's the one that put the bullet in your ex. He doesn't deserve to live." He pulled his gun up and fired it three times into the man. He needed to ensure it looked like self-defense. The shots needed to be sporadic. One near his heart, one near his stomach, and a random one in his leg. There wasn't a pattern. There was no reason to suspect that he was executed. It was his job, and he knew how to make it look the least bit suspicious.

"Jimmy, no!" Her words weren't fast enough as she watched the blood ooze from the body. She wasn't sure how to react or what to do. She'd never seen someone die right in front of her before, and now... and now she'd seen three people die in front of her; all in a matter of hours. Even if this was the man that killed Zach, it still didn't make it right to kill him in return. She couldn't let it feel right. That would only cloud her judgment more.

"Ev, table. Now!" Jimmy growled at her. He didn't mean to be nasty, but he was used to soldiers. He was used to orders being followed and actions not being questioned. He wasn't used to a woman questioning his every move. This was war. There was going to be casualties if they expected to stay safe. That was just how it was.

Jimmy watched Ev go to work in the kitchen; she was clearly avoiding eye contact with him. He twisted the silencer off of the gun and handed it to Jacob as he snuck Doctor Wiley out the back door. "Get everything?"

"Yeah, we're good." Jacob responded quickly. "If they dust for prints though..."

"I got it covered." Jimmy reassured him. "Get out of here. They'll be in at any second." Jimmy nodded at his co-conspirator. He reached down and peeled off the tape from the deceased man in front of him. He hated this part of the job, but it was what was needed. "Jacob, wait." He threw the balled up tape at him before the man got out of the building. He rubbed where the tape was so there was no definite proof that the man had been taped up. Questions may arise if the authorities really dug into the slight bruising around Brody's wrists and the adhesive that still was semi-stuck to where the tape had been. He knew the county morgue was overworked and understaffed, making the likelihood slim to none that any suspicions would arise.

He walked over to Evelina and grabbed her by the shoulders, making sure her full focus was on him. "Ev, I need you to listen to me. They're going to arrest us. Don't tell them anything. Downs will send us each an attorney. You just have to keep quiet about everything. Okay?" He watched her carefully.

Evelina nodded. She knew he was just trying to protect her. She knew this was the safest way to handle things, but it all scared her. The stories that Joey told her of what the cops did to people they thought were guilty kept going through her mind. Part of her regretted even mentioning bringing the cops into this.

Jimmy quickly dropped the dead man's gun in an angle next to his hand as he tipped the body over along with the chair to prove why there was blood on it. He threw his own gun down not far from the body to make it look like there was no doubt that self defense was behind the man's death. He came back and focused on Evelina. "We're going to go out there and surrender to them. We can't seem like we have anything to hide. Do you understand?"

Ev nodded. "What about Joey?" Tears prickled her eyes and lines creased her forehead. "What'll they do to him?"

"Ev, he'll be alright. Downs will ensure that. He protects his family." He reassured her. "Ready?"

"I don't know; I'm scared." Her eyes were wide and frantic.

"Evelina, we have to do this. Stay close to me until they take you, okay?" He had her by the shoulders again. "Just do what they say. You'll be fine."

Ev nodded again, taking a deep breath. "Okay."

"Come on." He encouraged her as he walked to the front door and opened it. He glanced back at her and whispered, "Hands on your head."

A few cops yelled for them to get down on the ground. Their guns were drawn and aimed at the pair, ready to shoot them if they became a threat.

Both Jimmy and Evelina got down to the ground and spread out in a non-threatening position.

"You're doing good." Jimmy whispered over to her.

A few cops rushed over to them. Ev's body tightened when an officer put his knee in the center of her back while cuffing her hands together. Her body ached from the day before and from the events that had happened just that morning. She was pulled to her feet by her arms. A moan escaped her mouth as pain shot through her body.

Jimmy's jaw hardened. He didn't know how hurt Ev really was and hearing her cry out began to really worry him. Regardless of that, he kept his mouth shut while he was pulled to a squad car and put in the back of it. He knew the routine. The cops would stash them away in cars until the house was cleared, then either they'd try to get a statement there or at the precinct. He was guessing they would be brought back to the station considering the situation. He watched Ev be escorted over to a nearby squad car. He could see her face wincing in pain. He guessed that it was from the pressure of her hands being cuffed behind her back. That kind of pressure on her shoulders could result in discomfort.

He kept reminding himself that she knew what she was getting herself into when she decided to remain in Joey's life, but he also knew that nobody really knew what they were getting themselves into in this unusual group. Maybe he'd made the right call in not trying to pursue Kita. He shook his head subconsciously, knowing that he was wrong. He'd made the wrong decision. It'd take a lifetime to atone for that.
