Several days passed by, giving Evelina the time needed to heal up. She was truly blessed. She was alive to prove that. That close call, and the many in the past, reminded her of how precious time was and how easily it could be snatched away. On that note, Joey and her decided that they were going to elope. A planned out, fancy wedding was overrated anyway. They'd much rather make things official before the baby came rather then risk something happening to one or both of them. The choice was obvious. They didn't need time to change their decision; it would always remain the same.
"Are you sure this is what you want?" Nakita asked, once again washing the dishes. She had made sure that Evelina was sitting and not up moving around too much, even though she felt fine. "It is not too late to change your mind if you are not sure."
"We both agree that we want to be married before this baby comes." Evelina looked away, swallowing hard. She was slightly disappointed with the decision. All of her childhood dreams of a big, flowy dress and big wedding party were going down the drain. In spite of that, she was still comfortable with their decision and wouldn't have it any other way. She was marrying who she loved. Nothing could possibly change that and she had no need for a big wedding to prove that. "Perhaps if we hadn't messed around like we did, we'd be having a real wedding. This might be God's way of allowing things to come out in a good way. Allowing things to be blessed still."
"Evelina, He already is working it all out. Sure, this is not what you had planned, and may not have been what either of you wanted, but God still did bring the two of you together. I will have to admit I think that is a very good thing. Not to mention that you are going to be having a baby! You have to admit that that is pretty exciting." Nakita couldn't hold back her enthusiasm. She was very clearly excited about everything moving forward and being all right, and she had a good point. This was a good thing.
Evelina managed a small smile. "You're right. I am getting excited about finally having this baby." Overwhelmed may have been a better term.
"Exactly! And you should be. Besides, we will make this wedding memorable for the two of you. We are going to get you a beautiful dress and we will get Jimmy to find Joey a marvelous tux. Everything will be perfect!" Her eyes widened with enthusiasm. Every word packed an exuberance that proved there was no hiding the woman's excitement.
Evelina smiled and began to stand up. "It's good to have a friend like you."
"You would have done exactly the same if it were in reverse." Nakita assured her, pausing from stacking up a few plates to face her friend.
Evelina grabbed a warm skullcap and her coat. She slipped both on with some boots. A light dusting of snow had made its presence known the night before and the cold November wind reminded her that winter was past approaching and she needed to stay warm.
"Where are you going?" Nakita looked sharply at Evelina. Her eyes followed every move she made, clearly analyzing what her plan would be.
"I need some air." Ev's hand was on the door handle. "Honestly, I just would like to clear my thoughts. I need to calm my nerves down. Saturday's coming fast."
Nakita's tight shoulders loosened up a bit. "Okay, but be careful. Keep your phone on you."
"I will." Evelina knew that she wouldn't be allowed to leave if she didn't keep the phone on her. Inwardly she smiled, full well knowing that her phone was off in her purse. She didn't want to be disturbed and between Nakita and Joey it was hard to get some time to just think in silence. She was beginning to feel suffocated by their overprotectiveness. If Joey were there at that moment there was no way that he would have let her out of the house without him. Even then, he probably would say that they needed to drive because there was no way that she should be on her feet in his mind.
