CHAPTER 11: All Thanks To Zane

AURORA

Colt and I as well as Shane all look back at Zane in disbelief at what he just said.

"What did you say?" I asked him not believing him entirely.

"I said he can stay. But there will be rules and we do have a couple spare rooms that haven't been used for a few years. So he can stay." Zane states.

Both Colt and I look at each other and right away, I look at Colt with a huge smile and we start hugging one another before we head inside the house and follow Zane and Shane towards the office.

Once we sit inside across from the desk, he starts.

"So what are the conditions?" Colt asks.

"You are to do what others around here do. Everybody has chores and you will as well." Zane states.

"But Zane, I do everything around here mostly." I interrupt.

"Not inside. There are plenty of things to do outside." He smirks at me.

"I'll do it." Colt says.

"Good. Then one more thing. If I ever ask you to run an errand for me, you do it, got it?" Zane states.

"What are you the mafia?!" I laughed under my breath but could see Zane and Colt look at me serious.

I lower my head in embarrassment a little.

"No we're not. I just have my own business." Zane says.

"Oh." I say.

"Anyways, there's something else you need to know about. I have a daughter who will be turning seven in a few days and you'll meet her later on today but, your job will also be to help watch her if Aurora can't do it." Zane says.

"Why wouldn't I be able to?" I asked confused.

"You might get sick or something. Plus, you need protection as well." He tells me.

I feel really confused right now but can tell that he is getting a little annoyed so I'm just going to remain quiet and wait til it's a better time to ask him questions.

"We gotta get going." Shane interrupts.

"Right." Zane nods at him as he then gets up and we leave.

They leave and I start making a snack for Willow as she is due home really soon. So both Colt and I head into the kitchen and as I'm making the snack, he sits down at the counter.

"You hungry?" I ask him.

"Nah. We ate on our way here." He smiles.

I notice him continuing to smile at me as he watches me make a snack.

"What?" I ask.

"Nothing." He laughs. "It's just that I have always seen you as one day being a mom and making your kids' lunch." He says with admiration.

"Shut up." I laugh.

We then hear the bus stop in front of the house and then hear the door swing wide open soon after as Willow comes running in as she always does and runs up to me hugging me.

"Aurora! Aurora!" She yells excited.

"Yes little one?" I reply.

"I gave out all my invitations to my birthday party and everyone said they might come. But don't tell daddy that Cindy is coming." She says.

"I promise." I smile at her.

She looks over at my brother.

"You must be Colt." She says as she walks up to him and he holds out his hand to shake it.

"We aren't making a deal and since you're her brother, there's no need to shake hands. I like giving hugs." She smiles as she holds our her arms.

He looks at me and I just shrug my shoulders and smile while he picks her up and hugs her back.

"I am going to call you uncle Colt." She says.

"How do you know his name?" I ask her.

"Duh, my daddy told me when he sent a message on my phone." She said.

"Well excuse me." I laugh a little at how cute she is.

"Can we play a game tonight?" She turns and walks up to me as I'm handing her her snack.

"Sure. What game?" I ask.

"UNO. We will wait for daddy and uncle Shane to come back and then we can all play. Oooo and order some pizza and wings." She says while jumping up and down excited.

"We'll see. Go upstairs and read and do any homework you have." I tell her.

She then runs upstairs and Colt then heads off to his room after I tell him where it's at and begin suddenly thinking about everything that has happened today and all thanks to Zane.
