ZANE

On our way back home from after our meeting with the Elders, I had Shane drive home since I was really tired.

"That was really nice of you." He says.

"What?" I yawned.

"What you did for Aurora." He says.

"Yeah well, it was only to make sure that she would not have to deal with that asshole Denton." I tell him.

"Uh-huh, suurrrrre." He says.

"Shut up man." I hit him in the shoulder.

"Just saying. It'll be better if you stopped fighting it." He states.

"I'm not fighting anything." I say to him.

"Oh really?! Alright! Well in that case, then you must not care that I saw your mate in her bathing suit that she bought for the birthday party this weekend." He says.

My wolf then took over and started to growl and was about to reach for his neck until he dodges me and starts laughing.

"It's not funny." I pout. "You're real irritating sometimes, you know that?" I asked.

"Whatever. We both know that you can't keep acting like a big asshole around her knowing she's your mate." He states.

"Even if that's true, it has to be a mistake." I tell him.

"And why's that? Because you think the Elders won't like her cause she's a human?" He asks.

"Not that. It's more of me being afraid that she might reject me after finding out what I am. Humans think of our kind as beasts and monsters. At least that's what movies have depicted us out to be." I admit.

"Yeah well, I think you should give it a chance. I mean, you know the Moon Goddess doesn't make mistakes." He tells me.

"What if she did this time?" I ask under my breath.

"I think you should stop being a whiney bitch and just accept and go along with it all. Besides, Willow loves her." He points out.

"Yeah, that's true." I nod in agreement.

When we finally pull into the driveway, we notice a pizza delivery guy standing and talking to Aurora as she stands there smiling while holding the pizza.

"Take it easy." I hear Shane say quietly to me.

We walk up and I take out some money and hand it to him.

"Here you go man, thanks for the pizza!" I tell him as I slap his back.

He looks at me scared and then starts walking back to his car quickly.

"You guys are home early." Aurora says.

"Yeah. Didn't last long." I laugh a little as I grab the boxes of pizza and wings and we head inside.

After setting the pizza down, I hear Willow come running up behind me and wrapping her arms around my waist.

I then turn and pick her up and give her a kiss on her cheek.

"And how's my little Princess?!" I ask her.

"Great! I passed out all of my invitations today and can't wait until my birthday this weekend." She says with a big smile.

"Me neither sweetie." I laugh.

I set her down then grab some food and sit down. When we were done, Willow suggested we play UNO.

So all five of us, sat there playing at the table and I have to admit that Willow is really good at this game.

Although the time has come and I see that Aurora, Willow and I were the only ones with the fewest cards left and it's my turn. So I put down a blue seven card and Willow puts down a draw four card and Aurora then draws four. Then once it comes back to being her turn again and she starts putting down draw two cards and then a draw four card and then puts down the last card but Willow calls out UNO before she does and has to draw a few cards and then once I put down a card, Willow puts a REVERSE card down and puts down her last card after yelling out UNO.

The rest of us tossed our cards onto the table in defeat.

"Every time!" Colt and Shane say.

"What can I say, I'm really good." Willow shrugs.

"Well, no matter how good you are, it's bedtime sweetie." I tell her.

"Aww man." She says.

"I know. But your three day weekend is coming up and your birthday will be Sunday and since tomorrow is Friday, you'll want to remind your friends about Sunday and find out who's coming." I tell her.

So we all say goodnight and I go up to tuck her in and as I come back downstairs, I see that everyone is gone except Aurora is cleaning up everything.

I walk up to the table and help her by grabbing pizza boxes that are now empty.

"Oh, thank you." Aurora smiles at me.

"You're welcome." I smile at her.

"Oh and Zane?" She says to me.

"Yeah?" I reply.

"Thank you." She smiles.

I smile back at her and nod my head before leaving out the back door to throw these boxes away knowing what she was saying 'thank you' to me for. I guess maybe Shane might be right. Maybe I could give this a chance.
