She wasn't here.
I've been standing around for almost an hour waiting for her incase she just went for a stroll, but she wasn't back.
And her place was not entirely locked up as if to show she wasn't going to be out for long.
So I waited.
And waited.
And after almost three hours, I gave up and got up and headed for the elders division in the pack house.
She had to be there.
I got up early today. Probably before anyone else in the house got up and headed for Evelyn's. I didn't want anyone to see me leave.
I had a series of strange dreams the night before that made me a bit uncomfortable.
I needed some reassurance.
"Dearie." I was engulfed by one of Rose's bone crushing hugs followed by her new man whose name I always forget.
Was it Ferdinand? Gerald? Geraldo?? He looks more like a Jefferson to me though.
I need to remember to ask, when he isn't around.
"How is our lovely Luna doing this morning?" Her friend, let's just go with Jefferson for now, asked me.
I still wasn't used to hearing that title in reference to me.
It seemed like a lot.
I tried my best to smile in response though. "I'm doing well thank you."
"Come come, sit." Rose said as she pulled me to one of the couches in the living room. We sat down and Jefferson followed behind.
Rose studied my face for a while, looking at me. Really looking at me.
I hadn't seen her in quite a while and not since my impromptu vacation overseas so I guess she needed a minute to really see me.
I studied her too.
Her warm brown eyes looking at me with a small sad looking smile on her face. Wait, sad smile?
She moved closer towards me and reached for my hands.
"How are you doing? Really?" She asked with all seriousness.
I stared blankly at her for a moment. Not really knowing what to say.
I mean, I was fine, for now.
And it could either remain like that or change. But right now, here with her, I was fine. And I needed her to believe that so she would be fine too.
I didn't like to see her so worried about me, I didn't like to see anyone so worried about me.
And there wasn't anything to be so worried about yet.
I knew she was asking this in regard to what happened with the whole family situation, and in that respect, I really was fine. I would be.
So I smiled at her and squeezed her hands.
"I really am fine Rose, thank you."
She still had a serious look on her face, as if trying to see through my soul. To detect any lies in my statement.
"Would you let up, you're frightening the poor girl with that intense stare. Its even giving me a scare." Jefferson chuckled from the other end of the couch looking over at Rose.
Rose seemed to snap out of her soul searching and turned to Jefferson and let out a laugh, "Oh be quiet would you." He faked a shudder at her words, pretending to be scared.
She rolled her eyes at him and turned back to me, "Ferdinand's such a tease." She laughed. I smiled back at her.
Oh, so it's Ferdinand is it? I still like Jefferson better.
"So how are things here?" I asked her looking for a nice not-gloomy topic to talk about.
She instantly lit up as she started telling about all that she's been up to and how lovely this place actually is.
We spoke for about a good thirty minutes. By this time I had a glass of iced tea in my hands and brownies being shoved down my throat. Almost quite literally.
"How's Joshua doing?" I asked her. I realized that I hadn't seen him around in quite a while. I mean, it's not like I see a lot of people all the time, but at least I should see him once a while. I even see Richard more often. He's usually loitering outside the pack house, just strolling really, like most of the time. It's weird but a bit funny.
He's still trying to settle.
