When Snacking Goes Too Far

Despite everyone technically needing to be in bed, I had snuck down to the kitchen to grab a snack. With no one there to supervise me, I sat on the table and began to eat the whole box of biscuits laid out before me. And if anyone were to come downstairs, I'd remind them of a favorite quote of mine. "Snitches get stitches."

A blonde figure went running across the hall as I was eating, and I did a double take.

Was that Emma?

I plopped off of the table and followed her out. Together we went outside and she still didn't notice me behind her, despite how jumpy she seemed to be. But she was determined to do whatever she was about to do, and jumped a good three feet into the air when she saw Hugh and Fiona hiding in the bushes.

Well, hiding wasn't the correct word, really. In fact, they were basically entangled in each other, with one leg here and another one there. Red carnations encircled the two as bees flew happily around them, pollinating the new buds. Hugh's hat wasn't even in the same bush as them anymore, and he seemed to have bits of Fiona's hair in his mouth.

Emma, obviously embarrassed, put a hand over her eyes to cover herself from the sight. Then she saw that I was behind her, and jumped higher than before.

Out of the four of us there, I wasn't even quite sure who felt more awkward. Fiona and Hugh, who were caught in their most intimate moment to date, Emma, who found them in this state while trying to sneak out, or me, who was trying to find out where Emma was sneaking out to go see (despite me already having a good hunch). We all tried to explain ourselves, and then decided that we were all equally traumatized.

"I won't tell anyone if you three don't," Emma promised.

I nodded, and avoided all eye-contact. "I'm good with that."

I immediately turned around and went back into the house, towards the kitchen. But after that, I didn't necessarily feel like eating anymore, so I put the box back in the cupboard that I found it in. I got a glass of water, and brought it upstairs with me and into my room.

I put the glass on my nightstand after taking a sip from it, and tried to go to sleep.

Come on brain, just shut down and let me have a mini coma.......I believe in you......

Never mind, it probably wasn't going to happen.

I moved to lay on my side so I was facing the wall perpendicular to me. It was a boring white colour, but Claire had helped me make a paper chain to decorate the room with. Each link was signed by someone from the house, including Emma, Millard, and even Enoch.

On a magenta coloured paper, the name Heather Brown was written in neat cursive handwriting. Green Victor was on her right, and me on a (F/C) coloured one of the left. I strained my eyes to read the names of everyone else on the chain without moving from my bed.

It was like counting sheep, I guess.

And it almost worked, too. My eyelids became heavy, and I was constantly finding myself reading the same names over and over again. I layed into a more comfortable position and closed my eyes. I was ready to pass out and go into a nine-hour coma, when a huge screech rang through the house.

I was jerked back awake and ran out of my room. It seemed Millard was awake too, and Bronwyn walked out of her room, tired and rubbing her eyes. Another screech sounded, and all three of us ran downstairs to the source of the sound.

A thump came from the front door, and I looked at Bronwyn, silently asking her what I should do. She nodded for me to open it, and I suddenly had a feeling of deja vu. From what, exactly? Oh yeah, probably because this exact scene plays out in every fricking horror movie right before someone dies!
