"But don't you want to know why I was with Cordelia?" Heather asked, somehow confused at my lack of being mad at her.
"Nope."
It was partly because I was too tired to fight back, but honestly, I didn't care what Heather did with her life. She was responsible for whatever she got herself into, and it was rude of me to stick my nose into her private life. In some ways, I was being nice and giving her some breathing space. If only she could do the same for me, though.
I was currently standing in front of a mirror, pulling my hair up and away from my face. I had on a simple over-sized t-shirt and jeans, which openly disgusted Heather. But I was going incognito today, and was finally helping Millard tackle a couple pages in his journal. Apparently he had been avoiding the Smiths' household from Cairnholm, since they had seven children, and he was scared that one of them will get in his way. He asked me to watch his back while he took notes to make sure the kids didn't ruin anything.
Since Miss Peregrine always talked about how I needed to use my powers more often, I decided that this would be a great opportunity to do so. Not only could I will myself to become invisible, but I could help it lure toddlers away from Millard's work. It was a foolproof plan, if I did say so myself.
"How do I look?" I asked Heather, giving her a 360 turn.
"Like you just broke up with someone," Heather said, obviously repulsed.
I smiled at her, and let myself become invisible. Heather's eyebrows lifted, and she seemed impressed. In fact, I might have caught her off guard enough that she smiled a bit.
"How about now?" I questioned her.
"Much better," Heather complimented. "Now I don't have to see your face."
I reappeared, only to hit Heather on the arm. She rolled her eyes, and followed me as I walked out of my room. It was a probably around five in the morning by noe, and no one else in the house was awake yet.
No one except me, Heather, and Millard of course, because we had an important mission to do! (Not Heather. She was just there to bug me.) I slid down the banister of the stairs, and waited by the house's front door for Millard.
"You know this is basically a date, right?" Heather said. I waved her off, and was thankful for the darkness from hiding my flushed face.
"I know you're determined to find me a boyfriend or whatever," I said. "But this is a new sort of low. He's my best friend, for Bird's sake!"
"But isn't that how the best romances bloom?" Heather pointed out. "And Millard reaches all of your very low standards. Remember my birthday that very sorry year ago, when we were playing Truth or Dare with Emily and Tommy? You said that your man must be funny, clever, and read a lot of nerd books."
I was about to say something back, when Heather interrupted me.
"And then Emily was like 'Oh, so you'd date an invisible person if you had to.' And you said yes." Heather continued proudly, as if she just proved something.
Did I really say that? Huh.
"Oh my goodness, and imagine what your kids would look like!" Heather exclaimed excitedly. "You don't even know what Millard looks like, so what if it turns out your kids look nothing like you? That would be so weird!"
"Heather, you sound as if you want this to be a date!" I said, putting a hand to my chest, pretending to be shocked.
"Millard definitely meant it to be a date, trust me," Heather responded. "That's why I wanted to tell you about yesterday. You see-"

FanfictionWhat did I think about my life? It's cool, it's great, and I loved living in a tiny house with no air conditioning in London with my very sweet, very sarcastic cousin. Why would you ask? I mean, sure everyone kept saying, "1972 is your year, (Y/N)!"...
