Chapter 16- Being Embarrassed
I opened every door in damn house and it either revealed a bathroom or the kitchen or the living room. I was getting upset, where am I going to sleep? I needed it, maybe crying my eyes out last night wasn't such a good idea.
I sighed and retraced my steps and I ended up back in front of Amy’s room. Amy opened the door after my first knock. “What are you doing here? I thought you’re in your own room.” She opened the door wider and motioned for me to enter.
“I don’t have a room. I looked for a spare but found nothing. Can we share?” I gave a sheepish smile and my puppy dog eyes.
“No, that won’t work on me. In case you haven’t noticed, the bed you’re sitting on is single.” She pointed to the lavender covered bed. I didn't realize I was already on her bed.
“Do you think my sisters would agree to let me share a room with them?” I was getting frustrated and sitting in a car for an hour is tiring.
“No, I think the rooms the three of us are staying in all have single beds.” She said in her matter-of-fact voice. I sighed and got out of her lavender colored room. After knocking down every door in the house, I realized that each room has a specific color its themed to. In Amy’s, its lavender, Sarah’s is Yellow-ish, Denise’s is green and my parents have beige. The kitchen is dark compared to the bedrooms and the living room is cream colored, it gives off a homey feeling.
Back to the problem at hand, I followed where Seth headed to earlier. I found myself in front of stark white double doors. I took a deep breath before knocking and I heard a faint “come in.” I opened the door and found Seth on his queen sized bed. He was wearing a plain white shirt and pajamas and was typing away on his laptop.
He looked up and stopped typing when he realized it was me in his room. “What do you want?” He bit out harshly. I winced at his tone, why is he so harsh to me? What did I do? Maybe he has a problem? I don’t really know that because he barely opens up to me.
“I have nowhere to stay.” I was glad my voice was steady.
“So?” He answered immediately and furrowed his eyebrows? Why is he being like this? My parents are here for Pete’s sake and he decides now of all time to act like a kid?
“Er-I-er. I’m gonna go.” I wanted to get out of his room, the last of my dignity has been crushed by him. I turned to leave.
As soon as I touched the door knob, he whispered “Don’t go.” I heard him perfectly because the house was so quiet every sound you make is magnified a hundred times.
I turned to him and I regretted it because he was already in front of me, his breath was fanning my face. “I-er. Yeah.” I am stunned to say the least.
“You can stay here if you want.” He stepped back and I can see agony etched on his face. What is his problem?
“Er-sure.” I answered but still unsure of it. “Seth?” I asked as he turned around, probably to get back to work on his laptop.
“Yes?” He turned and smiled at me but it didn't reach his eyes.
“Is something wrong?” I mustered up all my courage to ask that question.
He let out a sigh and strode towards me, when we were half an inch apart, he hugged me. I was not expecting that. “Ysa, I just had a crappy day at work.” He nuzzled into my hair and we stood like that for God knows how long.
When he finally let me go, he kissed my forehead and apologized for the way he acted. I understand him, I guess. “It’s fine but you have to tell me if you have a problem or not, I can’t be your punching bag. I’m your friend.”
