chapter twenty-seven

I showered and got ready. Allison got the kids in the car and blindfolded me as she drove to our destination.

Allison parked the car and she said, "I'm going to put a shirt on you.."

I let her and I realized it was a jersey. "Relax, it's just your jersey.."

She got out and got out the double stroller. She put Lily and Lauren in it and carried Audrey. She had me get out and walk blindfolded with my arm linked on hers.

"Is this some birdbox thing?" I asked confused

She laughed and said, "No.."

We got to a room and she got the kids out of the stroller and took off my blindfold.

"Why am I wearing a Blackhawk jersey and why are we at the United Center?"

"We are going to a game.." She said

Anthony laughed and said, "Yes, we are.."

I carried Lauren to our seats, right up against the glass in the Blackhawks zone..

They came out for warm-ups.. I looked down and saw that Lauren was in a Kane jersey..

"Am I wearing a Kane jersey?" I asked

"No, you're wearing Kane's jersey.." She said smiling

I was beyond furious with my sister and she knew it...

"Why would you do this?"

"Because you won't and you need to.."

The game started and Patrick so noticed me..

In the second period, Patrick scored.. He tapped his chest by his heat, kissed his glove, and pointed up to the sky.. I started to cry.. Anthony had Lily in his arms and Audrey was standing up..

Allison hugged me and I cried...

I was put on jumbotron and the United Center announcer said, "Ashley, Patrick Kane's ex-wife, is feeling very emotional about his celly.."

Great.. Everyone saw me..

Patrick skated over to the glass and he put his hand on the glass and I put mine there too.

He skated away and they lined back up at center ice for a faceoff.

"That was so embarrassing.." I said to Allison

The Hawks won the game 1-0.

Allison, Anthony, and I went down to grab the stroller. I carried Lauren and we waited outside the locker room..

Patrick came out and he hugged me while I held Lauren..

"Congrats on the game winner..." I said

"Thank you..." Patrick said looking into my eyes

He smiled and said, "I like the jerseys. Glad to see your daughter is already a Kane fan.."

"Can we talk?" I asked him

"Yeah.." He said

"Like at your house, alone?" I asked him nervously

He looked confused and he said, "Yeah.. Give me like ten minutes.."

"Okay.." I said

"Here, you can go put the carseat in my car.." He said handing me his car keys

I left and got Lauren in her carseat in the backseat of Patrick's Tahoe.

Patrick came out and he got in and he drove home, well back to his house.

I brought Lauren in and went and put her in the crib and I came back out in tears..

"What's wrong? Did Ryan do something?"

"I'm so sorry.." I choked out

"No, I ended things with Ryan in April." I said

"I didn't want to break your heart again.." I said

"When?" He asked

"When I found out that I was pregnant.."

"You're pregnant now?" He asked smiling

"No... I got pregnant after our divorce went through, or we thought it did.. I found out after we thought it was official and I didn't want to tell you that I was pregnant just to have to tell you that I lost the baby. So, I didn't.. Ryan and I started dating and once I knew the baby was going t be okay, I wanted to tell you, but you were happy with Amanda and you had a baby on the way.. It wasn't until three days ago that I found that Amanda's baby isn't your baby.. I didn't want to destroy your new family..." I said crying

"So Ryan isn't Lauren's dad?" Patrick asked

"No... Lauren Ella Kane is your daughter.." I said revealing my deep dark secret

Patrick started to cry..

"I'm so fucking pissed at you for not telling me sooner.." He said mad

"I know.." I said crying and feeling super guilty

"But I understand why you didn't.." He said

I told him everything about Lauren and he went into her room and picked her up..

"Just like I said, she is beautiful, just like you.." He said teary

"I miss you.." I said

He pulled me close to him while he held our daughter..

"She is much cuter now that she is my daughter..." Patrick said to me

"She's our little girl.." I whispered

"And you're my girl, forever and always.." He said

"I love you..." I said

"I love you too.." He said

We both just stood there looking at our daughter..

"I never want to put her down.." Patrick said

He laid her back in her crib and he left the room with me..

He kissed me and we were laying in bed together, making out. Patrick stopped and he took his necklace off. It contained his wedding band, my wedding band, and my engagement ring.

He put my rings back on and he put his back on.. We had sex and I asked, "So.. Now what?"

"You move back in with our daughter tomorrow and you come to the remaining four games wearing my jersey with our little girl.. and when the season is over, I take you and Lauren to Greece and we get re-married and renew our vows on a beautiful beach.." He said

I kissed him and I said, "That sounds amazing.."

I woke up the next morning and Patrick got up with Lauren and he was holding her and watching top highlights from to years ago.

"This is your mommy who is so beautiful and so good at hockey.. You are so lucky to have her as your mommy and that's me, your daddy and I love you so much and can't wait to see you play hockey."

I walked in the room and Patrick said, "good morning, mommy!" as he handed me Lauren

"Good morning baby girl!" I said holding Lauren

"You're pretty good at this whole dad thing." I said smiling at him
