chapter seventeen

I was now a month pregnant and we were going in for our first ultrasound. Everything looked good and our baby was due on January 3rd. 

Patrick and I went home and he put together the crib while I made dinner. 

My belly was a little bigger, but I just looked bloated. It was so hard to keep this a secret. 

A few days later, Q wanted me in his office to talk about my concussion.

I went to practice with Patrick and I went to see Q.

"So how are you?" He asked

"We're good.. Really tired."

"I'm so happy for you guys."

"Thanks coach" I said

"I just wanted to see you and make sure you were okay."

A few days later we facetimed our parents and told them the news. They were so excited to meet our baby.

I drove to Allison's and I walked in her house and I couldn't stop smiling.

"I'm pregnant!" I said 

"Congrats!!!" She said hugging me

I was crying and I told her everything. She was so happy for me and I couldn't wait.

"Do you think it's a girl or a boy?" She asked

"I have no idea.. I would love a baby girl, but part of me wants a mini Patrick."

"I can't wait to meet your little one." She said

We talked about everything that had to do with pregnancies and babies.

I was finally three months pregnant and we were telling the team today.

Patrick and I took a picture of the baby jersey and sent it in our team group message.

Patrick: guess what?! Ash doesn't have a concussion... She's pregnant and baby Kane will be here around January 3rd

Tazer: No way! Congrats! Damn.. daddy Kaner..

Crow: I can't wait to teach that kid how to swear. congrats!

Sharpy: Holy shit! My lineys have come so far. I'm so happy for you guys and can't wait to meet our little Kaner (sorry Ash, it's a boy)

Duncs: Congratulations Kaner and Ash! Welcome to the daddy club, Kaner!

The team continued to congratulate us and we were doing a gender reveal party during our training camp in early September. 

Patrick and I were flying to Buffalo for two weeks and then to Minnesota. 

"Oh my gosh, you are glowing!" Erica said

Donna hugged me and said, "She's right, you look amazing darling!"

My family also loved my small bump. Patrick and I went baby shopping once we were back home. 

"You are so beautiful!" He said as I was standing in a sports bra after a baby safe workout

"I'm getting fat!" I said laughing

"No, our baby is growing." He said 

Patrick and I started talking about baby names and wow, we had so many decisions to make. 

A few days later, Patrick and I were outside in our pool, enjoying the hot August sun. 

"Only you could look so hot in a bikini when you're pregnant."

I kissed him and we sat under the waterfall in our pool and talked about us being parents. 

We were both so excited.
