"Sorry I'm late."
"You're fine! Here, I got us a table."
nari took a seat in front of this handsome boy, smiling as she placed her bag onto her chair.
"So Jungwoo, a coffee shop wasn't cliche enough so you decided for..."
"Dinner."
the two shared a laugh. this jungwoo boy looked a bit older than me but he had a sweet smile.
"Right, you better not pull anything like you always do when we go do something simple."
"What, pfft! Of course not!"
the two talked and ate, happily smiling. nari had the biggest smile yet after a whole year of barely not smiling or faking a smile. but god forgive me, she looked damn joyful with this guy.
"The papers are final and you officially own that store. How crazy!"
"I know, I just... I really wanted to open up that shop."
jungwoo took her hand and smiled at her.
"I'm proud of you Nari."
she had this look of endearment, one that had been missing for so long as she grabbed both of his hands and took a deep breath in.
"I think I'm ready to make us official."
the boy's eyes just blinked before they widened. he took his hand to his mouth before laughing out of disbelief.
"A-Are you serious? So soon?"
"You call two months of unofficially dating so soon?"
his smile grew so big, i could tell it hurt his cheeks. i know because that's how i smiled with her.
"Are you sure? I told you, I'm willing to wait."
"I don't need to wait any longer."
her eyes slightly fell but she smiled down at her and jungwoo's hands together. she caressed his hand which made me smile. affection. a year and only a few stolen kisses hadn't seem as genuine as that small touch.
"I... I finally am able to let go. And that's good."
"That's what he would have wanted."
jungwoo leaned over and kissed the girl, softly and carefully. and it was genuine, with emotion. as he sat back down, all the waiters came through the kitchen doors, clapping in sync as they made their way towards their table.
"Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday, Nari! Happy Birthday to you!"
nari had her face buried in her hands, pure laughter escaping through them. they placed a slice of chocolate cake in front of her before going back to work.
"My birthday was five months ago and you know that!"
"Yeah but we got free cake!"
"I hate you so much."
"You love me, Nari."
the two went out the restaurant, the nice and cheery man walking off to get their car, strictly telling nari to not move or let herself get kidnapped which earned him a giggle.
she waited whilst looking at her phone when i watched as it began snowing on her head.
she smiled as she extended her hand up to catch a few snowflakes. her eyes shined even through the dim lit night sky.
i walked over in front of her. of course, she couldn't see me and she hadn't seen me for the whole year now. i knelt down and pushed the snow that fell in front of her into a small pile.
she looked down and smiled.
"Sanha."
i smiled as i pushed a small hole in it just because... well why not? she looked around before whispering to herself.
"Do you like him?"
i quickly drew a small arrow that pointed upwards, meaning yes. i did like him. he cared for her and seemed like would do anything for her. i could tell.
"I thought so. I guess I have a type for pranksters way too happy for my own good."
she awkwardly fidgeted with her hands as she then smiled.
"I'm happy and it doesn't feel wrong."
i sat down on the snow, missing the cold feeling as i looked up at her and waited for her to continue. because i knew that sad smile only meant one thing.
"I think it's time."
i agreed as i poked her ankle, something she couldn't feel and neither could i. for a year now, i made my presence subtle. but too many lights flickering and coffee mugs being pushed aside caused nari to realize it was me.
looking after her and her well being was all i could think about when i passed and i couldn't go just yet. seeing her sad made me stay.
but now, a smile spreads over her face as a blue car rolls it's window down.
"Let's go princess of the north. We must go forth!"
"And forth we shall go my prince!"
she giggled as she opened the car door and stared at the small snow hill i had huddled together. she smiled and got in the car, her head turning to look at jungwoo.
"Let's go."
and unlike the whole year of me following her everywhere, i watched from my spot in the snow as the car drove off.
i hadn't felt anything throughout the whole year except for a warm feeling where my heart used to be.
and as i saw her turn back and look, the wind took me and the snow hill away, to rest at peace.

a/n: writing this was an emotional rollercoaster for me and i hope it was for you too, no hard feelings, huh?
i've always wanted to write a story in which an innocent love is crushed to pieces because unfortunately, real people die each day way too young due to sickness. i dedicate this to my mom who actually suffers from fibromyalgia and who is strong and fights every day like the person she is—normal.sickness and illnesses do not stop anyone from being human and treating others differently because of that, discourages them so please do keep that in mind. i love sanha so much, although he isn't my bias, he holds a special place in my heart and i knew he'd be the best idol for this plot line. i really can't imagine having portrayed anyone else.
although fibromyalgia doesn't kill people, jakob's disease does and if you do your research, most patients fall into a coma before they die so sanha wasn't ignoring nari!! he had just... haha died. after re reading this maybe that needed some clearing up.
i put a lot of work and time and emotion into this story so please do tell me what you think and if you can share it with others. it's meant to portray a bigger message other than "oh! sanha dead!" and don't spoil it.
if you are reading this because of my jinjin fanfic, thank you for supporting it as well. if you haven't read that story i encourage to do so as it's written in a different format and longer story and i think by the time i publish this, it will be completed or close to.
thank you so much for reading. stay healthy <3
