Epilogue

August 31

"Sheila, will you help me up please?" I requested, running my hands around my tummy, which is as big and heavy as a watermelon by now, considering I'm 8 months pregnant with our baby girl. I'd ask August to help me up as I usually do, but he's across the house after just taking a phone call. The voice on the other line said through the speaker that it was important, and whoever it was seemed serious and upset, so August decided to go to another room to talk privately.

I just hope everything's ok.

Sheila gladly accepted what I'd asked her and grasped my hand, pulling me up as I heaved my own body. I can't wait for Autumn Carmen Alsina to come out next month so I don't have to carry her so much, this weight is back-breaking.

"Thanks Sheila. You know, I'm glad you got to fly out here." And it was true. Though Sheila was pretty mad at me and August when he'd finally told her I was pregnant a few months ago, she got over it and decided to support us, and that's when we began to bond more. She still lives back in our hometown, yet we all visit each other often and spend quality time together.

"Oh, it's no problem" She replied with a smile. "I'm really glad to see you guys."

I began walking towards the kitchen area to get a glass a water before August came slugging in, his head hung down and a depressing, confusion expression painting his face. I stopped in my tracks and couldn't help but to immediately feel concerned.

"Is everything alright?" I asked. He looked up at me with his lips curled in and his eyes glossy, as if we were trying to keep himself from crying. By now I was way past concern - never have I seen August cry.

"Baby, what's wrong?" His mama asked him, looked just as worried as me as she walked up to him and lay her dainty hand on his shoulder.

"Melvin - my brother...." He began, trying his best to let his words come out smoothly without cracking his voice or starting to cry, which was pretty noticeable.

"August... what is it?" I asked, walking over to him as well. I guessed something bad happened to his brother, but if he's on the verge of crying, this must be really fucking awful.

He took a thick gulp before he spoke, not looking either of us in the eye.

"He's dead."
