At around 3 am Toby woke up crying loudly but I quickly got up, not wanting to wake Ian.. That poor thing hasn't been sleeping well, and I couldn't help but feel as if it's all my fault. I liked having Toby around, even if it means waking up early in the morning and sleeping late night. Something about having Toby with us made me feel like it was having my own family, with Ian. And it felt good, amazing, actually.
I fed him and changed his diaper as well and eventually he fell back asleep no more than an hour lately. Only this time I didn't leave him sleep alone, instead I slept next to him with a sly smile on my face. He looked adorable in his sleep, like a little angel and I loved the way he smiled every few minutes in his sleep, making both his dimples show.
I stroked his hair and kissed his cheek before falling asleep fastly because of how tired I felt.
It was still very early in the morning, I was able to tell by the dim light from the window. When I turned my head, the clock proved my right showing it was 6:40, but that didn't stop my phone from ringing. I got up lazily, rubbing my eyes and walking stumbly till I reached my phone which was in Ian's living room.
"Hello?" I answered.
The caller hung up on my face making me groan. The lock screen apeared again showing me all the messages I had. From Caleb..
"I'm sorry."
"I'm leaving at 11."
"Please reply me when you see this."
"I'm never going to see you ever again."
"Text me as soon as you can."
"Please just let me see you one last time."
"We'll meet in a public place if it'll make you feel safer."
The inner smart part of me was telling me to shut my phone off and go back to sleep. But the other part told me to see him, make sure he's okay at least. And not to mention, ask him the questions that have been haunting my head all night long.
I washed my face in the bathroom then wore the clothes I brought for today. I didn't bother adding up makeup, I just removed the smudge and left the place with my sunglasses and my low battery phone.
The cafe is about a 5 minute walk from Ian's, I remember we went there every once in a while, back when we used to wake up early. The street's were quieter than usual and the walk was shorter than usual as well.
I spotted Caleb by his hair through the window, seated on the corner. As soon as he smiled and his face lit up. I would've been happy to see him like that, but not after what happened yesterday. I took a seat from across him not making eye contact and not saying a word for a couple of awkward minutes until he spoke.
"I'm leaving today." He started, sighing, "At midnight I came back home, your home, and my bag was
already packed and ready, waiting for me at the entry. That's when I knew I had to leave."
"You shouldn't have hurt Ian nor lie to him." I stated.
"I know. I'm sorry. If I knew you'd get back together I wouldn't have done it. I just wanted him to feel the pain he made you feel-"
"That still doesn't give you the right to hurt! I didn't ask you to! You're lucky he didn't do something to you." I snapped angrily.
"Do you even know about the baby in the house? I heard a baby crying! He's probably cheating on you with another woman! This could be his biological son, with another woman!"
"This baby you are talking about is his nephew! Don't assume anything you don't know!" I said, getting up but he held me back.
"I'm sorry. You're right. The point of seeing you was to not argue, it was to say goodbye to you.." He frowned.
