"What took you guys so long?" Sakura asked as you and Kakashi entered the training site.
All three Genin were standing around with bored expressions until you had shown up.
"We had to discuss something important with Lady Tsunade." Kakashi explained. He gave an awkward close eyed smile and rubbed the back of his neck.
You avoided eye contact with any of your students, looking at the ground.
It was true, you both had a very intense conversation with the Hokage. But Kakashi had forgotten to mention what happened after the meeting. Let's just say there was an intense game of tonsil hockey in a back alleyway for about five minutes.
Sasuke analyzed you both, his dark eyes settling into a suspicious squint.
You tried to ignore him. "So, I assume you guys didn't really do anything while we were gone. How about we start with a lesson?"
Kakashi nodded in agreement. "Yes, I think it's time that (Y/N) takes lead of your lessons this afternoon."
Sasuke shook his head, grumbling to himself while Sakura and Naruto perked up.
"Whatcha gonna teach us, sensei?" Blondie asked.
You thought for a moment before reaching a conclusion. "It is important for a shinobi to always be aware of their surroundings, to be able to fight even when one or more of their senses are deprived."
"Huh?" Naruto asked. He was pulling wax out of his ear in boredom.
You did a face palm, shaking your head in exasperation. "You've all experienced my Shadow Wave jutsu. You know what it's like to feel helpless without your sight. I think it's time I teach you how to navigate in complete darkness."
Sasuke raised a brow, Sakura developing a look of curiousity.
"We can work on lack of sound later, but I think it's important for you all to overcome the darkness." You explained.
"But sensei, that sounds pretty hard!" Naruto countered.
You rolled your eyes. "Which is exactly why you should learn how to master it. If you ever fall into a situation where your vision is impaired, you should be capable of continuing your task. For example, what if someone slashed your eyes during an S-Rank mission? You are blind, but alive, therefore you must still complete your mission at all costs. You must be able to protect yourself and complete your task successfully even without being able to see."
Kakashi nodded in agreement. "She's right, it's important for you all to learn this. It would have been more efficient if these sensory deprivation lessons began in the Academy, but clearly they did not."
Dark memories of your childhood resurfaced at the mention of the Academy. "When I was still in school, one of our first lessons were to overcome fear itself. Our teachers would lock us up in dark chambers with no food and water for days to see if we could endure it. It was pitch black, and they would sometimes throw a wild animal down their with us. That's where I had to learn how to navigate in the dark." A mild migraine started, but you ignored it.
Everyone stared at you in shock.
"You're not gonna shove us in a dungeon with a bear, are you?" Naruto asked nervously.
Sakura glared at him, nudging his shoulder as a warning.
You chuckled, shaking your head. "No, I won't make you go through what I did. No one deserves that."
Kakashi took a step towards you, you could tell that we was trying to comfort you, but you brushed it off. "Well, enough with all this depressing talk. Let's start the lesson!"
