Three days had passed. It was time for the final stand.
You had spent those days absorbing the handwritten pages of the secret diary you had found in the archives. You had found something strange about them. Some hint to some sort of hidden power. One only one Hikarigan wielder had ever awakened it... a power not made of shadows, but of something else...
You shook your thoughts away, understanding that you had something more important to focus on at the moment.
You stood in the shadows of the square in front of the Administration Building, your Kekkei Genkai keeping you virtually invisible. As far as the Nightmares knew, you were still cooped up in your apartment, trying to figure out a plan on how to capture the rebel leaders. The leaders you were now conniving with to take the Council down.
Taeru casually strolled toward you, hands in his pockets as he kicked a pebble with his shoe.
"We're ready when you are." He whispered under his breath.
You pushed off the wall you were leaning on, slinking behind the building you stood in front of.
You climbed up the side of it to the roof. From here, you could see a single Nightmare standing guard in front of the Administration Building's main entrance. Several others monitored the surrounding area, keeping watch over their beloved Council.
There in the square, several feet from another Nightmare, were several rebels. They awaited your signal to move. You glanced around the area, noting every group of rebels strategically placed near the Nightmares, including Taeru. In just a few moments, they would all attack.
You glanced at the square's clock tower, it had been seven minutes since the infiltration team entered the administration building. They were rebels disguised as normal people seeking government assistance, their mission was to locate the Council and secure the inside of the building once the plan moved forward. They had three more minutes before you would begin the attack.
This was it, there was no going back. In a few moments, you would finally confront the Council for all they had done. In a few moments, you could be dead.
The minutes flew by rather quickly and before you knew it, it was time.
You focused on the Nightmare guarding the front entrance, steadying your breathing as you activated your Hikarigan. You gritted your teeth, forcing the shadows behind him to bend to your will. They shot forward, wrapping around the Nightmare's ankles like twin vipers. A third one covered his mouth, silencing his screams as the shadows dragged him into an alcove.
As he slumped over, unconscious, the rebels surged forward, swarming the square from all sides. Several Nightmares patrolling the square drew their weapons but were quickly taken down by the rebels hiding nearby. You used your Kekkei Genkai to take out several more, shadows wrapping around them and holding them down for the rebels to take care of. In a matter of seconds, the entire area was under rebel control.
One of the rebels signaled for you to join them and you climbed back down the side of the building. You and several others marched to the front entrance of the Administration Building. A member of the infiltration team was already there, holding the door open.
You quickly winded your way up the flight of stairs and down the hall, burning any Nightmares with your Shi no Hono.
Another member of the infiltration team led you down the corridor, towards the Council room. The Council would be inside, held captive by more rebels.
"I have a bad feeling about this." Taeru muttered as he caught up to you, matching your pace.
"Were you supposed to have a good feeling?" You mused.
The old man mumbled under his breath before falling back, allowing you to take the lead.
As you neared the door, you slowed your pace until you came to a stop. The rebels followed your lead, stopping behind you. You could practically hear their thoughts as they questioned why you stopped.
It was because this was it. As soon as you stepped through those doors, you would never go back to being a puppet again. The Council would finally know that you were a traitor. And they would kill you for it. Most likely in the most painful way possible.
You sighed, you had no choice but to move forward. For Haru, for your parents, for your people, you would reveal yourself to the Council and risk everything.
And so with the weight of an entire rebellion on your shoulders, you opened those doors, ready to face your impending doom.
