You and Kakashi walked toward his tent, holding hands as he looked at you in question.
As fresh air filled your lungs, you began to break out of your daze. Even so, something dark lingered, like a dense miasma.
"(Y/N)..." Kakashi said.
You stiffened at his tone. It sounded like pity. "Yes?"
"Have... you done anything like that before?" He asked gently.
You pulled away from him. And responded coldly. "Done what?"
You neared his tent and he led you inside. You sat on the edge of his bed and he began to pace. "Have you... snapped like that in the past?"
"I didn't snap!" You yelled defensively.
"(Y/N)..." His gaze softened and for some reason that pissed you off.
"Don't give me that look."
"What look?" He asked obliviously.
You clenched your fists in irritation. "I don't need your pity."
"I'm not-"
"I know what you're trying to get at." You stood up and walked around the bed to the opposite end of the tent. "You've decided to play detective to see if I've lost it. What are you gonna ask next? Probably prod on if it might have anything to do with my 'traumatic childhood' or-"
"(Y/N)-"
"I'M NOT CRAZY!!!" You screamed. Your palms stung and you glanced down to find that you'd cut them open by squeezing your fists so hard.
Kakashi stared at you wide-eyed.
He's afraid. He thinks you've lost your mind.
"Just, leave me alone..." You ran out of the tent.
"(Y/N)! He grabbed your wrist.
"Don't touch me!!!" You screamed, yanking out of his grasp.
You saw the hurt look in his eyes and for a moment you regretted everything you had said. But what if he was starting to fear you? You wiped the tears falling from your eyes as you ran away from the tent. Kakashi didn't follow.
You didn't know where you were or where you were going, all you felt was an instinctual urge to run. Your legs groaned in protest, your lungs were on fire. A cool wind stung your cheeks and whipped your hair.
Eventually, your mind began to clear, as if the thick mist that had settled over it had been blown away by the wind. You slowed to a stop, bracing your hands on your knees as you huffed for lost breath.
The last hour returned to you, hitting you like a load of bricks. The weight of shame and acknowledgement came so fast and burdensome that you fell to the ground, nearly knocking the wind out of you.
You gasped for air, clutching your chest as your mind grappled with your actions.
What you had done... it hadn't just, happened. It had been a slow process leading up to it, you could feel it. But when did it start?
In the square watching the rebels being hunted? No... in the prison when Fuyu invaded your mind.
Farther.
Before then?
... On the rooftop in Konoha. When you snapped at Kakashi. And let him fall.
No.
Long before you had even met him...
You slipped twenty years ago when Fuyu killed your parents.
