Chapter Thirty

"Are we there yet?" Blondie complained.

"NO!!!" Sasuke and Sakura yelled at him for the fiftieth time in the last hour.

The five of you were on your third and final day of travel, now in the middle of the desert.

"We'll see the village soon, just hang in there." Kakashi responded patiently. He had been trying to keep calm, but even you could see he was growing weary.

The blonde grumbled to himself.

All of you were sweating uncontrollably, your water supply dwindling. If you didn't reach the Hidden Sand Village soon, someone was going to pass out.

"Ack! Screw this." Naruto said before unzipping his jacket. He took it off, along with his shirt.

The boy sighed in relief, glad to have the hot wind drying up his perspiration.

You rolled your eyes at him. "Careful, Blondie. The desert sun is merciless. If you spend too long with your bare skin exposed, you'll get a sunburn."

The boy shrugged. "Right now, I don't really care."

You chuckled. Typical teenager.

"Naruto, maybe you should listen to (Y/N)-sensei. A sunburn out here would be twenty times more uncomfortable than wearing hot clothes. You could even get skin cancer." Sakura warned him.

She was wearing a long white robe that covered her entire body. Sasuke and Kakashi wore similar outfits. Naruto had thrown his off about half an hour ago. You had replaced your normal hood with the same garb, seeing as light clothing reflected the sun better.

"Whatever... I'll be fine. After all, the future Hokage can handle a little bit of sunshine!"

Twenty minutes later, you spotted a dark cloud in the desert haze. As you neared it, you could recognize it as tall, rocky cliffs.

"We're here." Kakashi said.

You let out a sigh of relief as you all neared the tall cliffs. As you approached a gap in the rocky outcropping, you could make out several figures standing guard.

"Hey Blondie, now is a good time as ever to put your shirt back on." You glanced back at Naruto.

He grumbled to himself, slipping his shirt and jacket back on.

"Halt. What's your business here?" One man asked. His companion stood at attention, watching the five of you cautiously.

"We're here from the Hidden Leaf Village, sent by the Hokage to retrieve the Scroll of Secrets." Kakashi explained calmly.

The guard frowned. "That can't be right. The team from Konoha is already here."

All your teammates shared looks of confusion. You were the first to come to the realization. "They're fakes. Someone's trying to infiltrate Suna!"

The man's eyes widened in shock before he turned to his companion. "Sound the alarm! We have intruders trying to steal the Scroll! Don't let that other team leave!"

The second guard nodded in response, running off to warn someone. Several moments later, the loud wail of a horn pierced the air, followed by several others.

The guard in front of you all watched you suspiciously. "I don't know whether your team or the other one is fake, but I'm gonna have to detain you."

You glanced at Kakashi and he shrugged. "Alright." The silver haired man responded.

The guard whistled loudly and four more ninja appeared. They surrounded your team while the first man gestured for you all to follow him. "We'll take you to a detention facility until all of this is sorted out."
