(Y/N)'s POV:

"(Y/N)!!! HELP ME!!!" Your mother screamed as she was dragged out the front door.

You watched blankly, no longer fighting to save her. You were always too late.

"(Y/N)!!! OH, PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!!!" She screamed and kicked as they threw her to the ground. Then began the flurry of punches.

"(Y/N)!!!!!!!!!"

Her screams were silenced after a kick to the face, knocking out most of her teeth.

A few moments later, and the struggle stopped. Your mother stopped moving.

"Now, your turn." One of them said. A sadistic smile stretched across his face.

You stared at him blankly, not even willing to give a witty remark. Nothing could be done.

They dragged you into the dining room, although it was relatively painless since you made no move to resist.

"Pin her to the table." One said to the rest. Two held your hands and feet out as another produced a hammer and nails.

He started with your right hand, placing the sharp end of the nail over your upturned palm. Then he brought the hammer down. The nail was sharp enough to slip through your skin and embed itself in the table.

You only winced once. He continued to nail the rest of your extremities down.

"Shall we get the tools?" One asked the leader. He frowned.

"No..." He reached a hand up to his temple.

His comrade looked at him in concern. "Are you alright?"

The leader waved him off. "I'm fine." He stared at you coldly. "There's going to be a change of plans today."

You didn't react. You found out very quickly that reacting to them only persuaded them to make it hurt more.

"Then should we-"

"Leave. We'll all leave." The leader motioned at all of the men in the room. They came him confused looks.

"Go!" He yelled and they all scrambled for the door. He was the last one out, giving you one last glance before leaving.

You sat there in silence for a few moments, still in a daze. What was happening?

"(Y/N). Can you hear me?" A voice came from your left.

You squinted at the sunlight shining through the window.

A woman leaned against the sill, arms crossed as she watched you carefully.

How had she gotten there?

"Do you understand what I'm saying?" She pushed off the window, stepping towards you.

You kept your eyes on her, but made no effort to respond. You had given up on speech at some point.

"What? Did they cut out your tongue? If you understand what I'm saying, say yes."

You frowned. This was the first time anyone here had actually talked to you. At least more than the occasional comment on how much fun they were having slicing you up.

You nodded slowly, still unsure of what was happening? Was this a new strategy? A new way to get under your skin? Had they realized you were used to the normal schedule and were trying to change it up? You realized it had been a very long time since you had seen another woman. True, you saw your mother every morning, but only briefly. She usually stopped trying to converse with you after you made it clear that you didn't want to speak.
