Lifeguard

I don't think you need a lifeguard
just someone to talk to
but when times will get rough
I'll come save you
if it becomes too much
but for now, I'm just slowing you down
slowing your ascent to glory
constantly making you worry
I'm just an anchor you decided to swim with
having already difficulty staying afloat alone.

You really think you need my help
but you don't, you're stronger by your own
I know that you've been through a lot
and that can be really rough
for anyone
for anybody whose thoughts have once overrode their logic
I know what it feels like
so I understood it
the ups and downs
things can like that can bring your whole world crashing
help ease down the drink.

You're strong
way way stronger than me
you'll just end up carrying me
just like you did for everybody else
I don't even know if I could save you
like you did so many times
I don't have the words
the right and perfect words
I didn't even know what you had done to yourself
I was just fucking talking about my problems
like the complete narcissist that I was
I don't even know if I could save you from myself.

It was once a scratch
now it's a promise.

It was once a scar
now it's a reminder.

You don't need an anchor
bound to you
pulling you down
making you drown
let it go
stay afloat.

Why do you need a lifeguard when I'm the one pulling you under the surface?
