Chapter 18 ~An Unlikely Pair

In infinite space, even the most unlikely events must take place somewhere. ~Max Tegmark

Felix's POV

It was after school when I walked down the empty school hallways heading towards J.J's locker. He still is refusing to leave his house, even for school, so all this week I've been getting his work for him.

Ever since Harley has gone missing J.J has been a mess. He's lost an unhealthy amount of weight and he hardly leaves his room.

The light tan J.J had was now completely gone and he was a sickly pale and he cried almost everyday.

It still didn't help that as of right now there was still no leads on my dear friend. I've never felt more useless and frustrated in my entire life. There are times where I want to sit and cry for my lost friend, but I can't.

I have to be strong.

For Brendan, Tyrell, Jett, and Grant.

As I turned the corner I saw an almost distraught Costas walking up the hall, and when he spotted me he wasted no time in pushing me up against the wall.

"He was your close friend, Felix, and I know you would never hurt him. So don't give me a reason to believe that you did" he whispered in an almost threatening tone. His eyes were wild and calculating "Now where is my head warrior Harley Brown" he asked in an urgent whisper. "He's been missing for a week now. Where is he Felix" his tone pleading for an answer.

I shoved him off to create some distance "I don't know, okay" I snapped suddenly feeling overwhelmed as all my emotions came crashing down at once. "I've been trying to hunt him down and track him, but he's gone. He disappeared seemingly out of thin air" I said while pacing. "No one has any leads on him, and I'm assuming your pack of mutts can't even sniff him out" I pulled at my hair in frustration. "There's just no leads" I sighed.

Costas' look fell as he stared at the ground "We found his clothes torn apart by Lytle Lake. By the waterfall" he muttered. "We've tried to reach him through our mind-link, but we can't reach him. That can mean a few things either he blocked off the link, or he's too weak to answer" he told me.

Lytle Lake? That was close to the tree house, but we checked there and there was no sign of anyone being there. Maybe he was heading there and something happened?

My head started to spin with all the possibilities.

"We also caught another scent......" he trailed off and looked me up and down. "Felix, your smell was lingering on the scent we picked up" he deadpanned not bothering to beat around the bush.

My face flushed with dread "W-What" I asked after an unwavering second. "How dare you!" I exclaimed after another second "I would never do that to him! How dare you suggest that" I sneered.

"I never suggested you did but.....maybe your father" he suggested while looking at me.

I froze "Shit" I muttered.

How come I never thought about him? Maybe because the shit hasn't been home since the argument.

"Listen Felix. I don't know for sure, but if anyone could help it's a good friend of mine" he told me.

"Then why did you come to me! Go talk to your friend! Find your 'head warrior'-my best friend and bring him back!" I yelled finally losing my cool and cracking under all the pressure I've been under for the past week.
