Chapter 19 ~Mended Bonds
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you ~Friedrich Nietzsche

Felix's POV
I glanced at Harley every now and then as I drove us home. I wanted to ask how he was, but I couldn't find it in myself to speak. He too didn't make an effort to start up a conversation as we sat in my car in silence.
It was so unlike him to be quiet like this.
Dr. Sandra said he was really chatty once he woke up, and all the way up until I picked him up. So I know nothing is wrong with him. Now all that's left to wonder is why he isn't speaking to me.
"So....how are you feeling" I ask after having a mental discussion with myself about making the first move.
"Tired" he muttered. "My wolf doesn't have much stamina left in him. He used it all just to keep me alive, but he should regain all his strength and be good as new in a few days. I feel drained mentally and physically. My strength isn't completely back yet, but Dr. Sandra said I should regain my strength in a day or two" he spoke before giving me a tight smile.
I hummed "You know....they guys really missed you" I told him. He turned away and sighed "J.J is a mess and he hasn't left his house the whole time you've been gone. He also lost so much weight since you've been gone, and he refuses to eat. Tyrell thinks you're probably dead, all the while Brendan and Grant have been taking turns taking care of J.J" I informed him.
I thought he was giving me the silent treatment again, and I sighed. That is before I heard a sniffle "I'm sorry" he whimpered while wiping his eyes quickly. "I really thought you guys hated me for what I did to J.J" he gave out a soft chuckle.
"Really, dude!? You think we would stop caring for you after one screw up. We would never turn our backs on you for something like that! We did expect for you do apologize to him though. Not run from you problems" I said in disbelief.
"Yeah, I've realized that now" he said with his head hanging low.
"What happened to you anyways" I finally asked.
He tensed "F-Felix-" he stammered.
"Tell me, you know you can always trust me" I told him honestly.
He sighed "When I stormed out of the house I went for a walk. I needed to clear my head so I was going to head to the tree-house. It all happened so fast from there....I was by the lake, and I was so preoccupied by my thoughts I didn't even smell them coming until I was ambushed." he looked down at his hands. "I shifted not even bothering about my clothes." his eyebrows furrowed. "I remember taking down four of their men before the restrained me. They forced me to swallow wolfs bane in an attempt to sedate me I guess. They beat me, cut me, burned me, and they were going to kill me.....until your father came" he whispered.
I sat in shock I couldn't even open my mouth to say anything.
"Your father held them off and told me to run" he mumbled. "I managed to drag myself away and that's how I ended up on Alpha Megan's land. I don't know what happened to your father. There's no way that a man his age, no offense Felix, was able to take them down. They were young hunters probably a bit older than you." he told me.
I felt dread bubbling in my stomach. My dad hasn't been home in the week and three days that Harley has been missing.
I shook my head as we finally arrived at Harley's house. "Well let's get you inside everyone is waiting" I muttered under my breath and I knew he heard me with his super-hearing and everything.
