I was woken by my phone ringing very loud and I almost flew it across the room
"Mtshew!" I hissed as I tried to check who the caller might be with squinted eyes. It was an unknown number so I didn't bother to pick. I put my phone to silent mode as I tried to go to sleep but I wasn't lucky enough because it was difficult trying to go back to my slumber
Sighing, I gently rose to my feet, I changed my bedspread as I put everything in order and cleaned all the mess. My stomach rumbled and I was again reminded that I haven't had anything since last night.
Debating on cooking or the cafeteria, I decided to eat out because I am still restoring my energy from all the reading I've done lately plus me having money that would last the week is a bonus
I picked my phone, veil and keys, locking the door behind me. I can't look at chips and rice the same again after the countless consumption, I am hungry and I want food. When I say food, I mean swallow. I placed my order and patiently waited. I was served Semovita and Egusi soup, I dug in and in no time my stomach was filled
I unbuttoned my jeans to let my stomach sit probably as I stretch my legs in satisfaction
"Food is bae" I muttered to myself. I chugged down my chilled zobo and watched some videos on YouTube
My phone began to ring, I rolled my eyes at the caller and just ignored him.
He called two more times and I didn't pick. I then received a message from him on SnapchatJohnson🤡☠: I know you aren't ignoring my calls right now... I just know it😒 1:06pm
Johnson🤡☠: You know you're messing with your GPA right?🙄 1:12pm
Me: Ohh I am so scared😏
Johnson🤡☠: Babe stop playing😣
Me: Not your baby😒
Johnson🤡☠: Coffee?? 1:17pm
Johnson🤡☠: Please?🙁 1:20pm
Me: Never knew you could be this polite🙃 would be out in thirty minutes
Johnson🤡☠: Whatever happened to now?🙄
Me: I gotta pray "Johnson"
Johnson🤡☠: For the last time, STOP CALLING ME THAT!!😡
I giggled and headed to the masjid. Observed my prayers and went to the room to do some little touch up on my face, Your girl gotta give him that expression of him being scared of ever losing me😉
"Hey beautiful" Salim smiled at me making my heart skip a bit, I don't know how he's doing it but whatever it is definitely has an effect on me
"Hello hands..." I stopped midway, what the hell is wrong with me? I let my awkwardness take control of me. He chuckled
"You don't have to complete the statement, I know already" He said with a wink "Ugh! So full of yourself" I rolled my eyes and headed to the car not waiting for him to hold the door as I slammed it behind me
"Damn! What's up with the attitude? I am trying to make you feel better about the exam stress and all" He admitted "Nobody asked your handsome self to help" I stated before realising what I spilled, he raised his brow "Look who's admitting" He said checking his self out, slightly brushing his chin with his fingers... Ugh! I hate when guys do that "Oops!" I scoffed feeling really stupid as he laughed hard
I had a good laugh with him. He makes everything feel at ease, my poor little heart race at every stare... I hate him for this. We had a good ride along Lagos and even stop by at the market. He bought foodstuffs and other stuff, I was at awe with the way he handle things here so smoothly
An igbo man approached us and starting raining compliment on us "Fine girl!" "This clothe would fit you o!" "Sir buy for your madam, it's a fine clothe o" I was about to debate on the last statement when Salim made it clear that we're a couple "The gown seems lovely but my wife doesnt like this colour" he said tugging at the yellow gown and I gasped "We have different colours sir" "Hunny, what colour would you like?" He smiled and I glared
"I'd go with her favourite colour... Red" he told the man as the man nodded and wrapped it up in no time, he convinced us into buying shoes, jeans and a bag "Thank you very much sir" He smiled while handing our bags over "What about me?" I pouted a bit "Thank you too ma" He smiled as I returned it
Salim led the way to a corn roaster and I seriously can't remember the last time I had one.
"I see what you did there" I raised my eyebrows "Did... What?" He asked acting like he didn't know what he did "For the record, my favourite colour isn't red" I said folding my hands "You never told me" "You never asked" I shrugged. I saw a sugarcane seller and I almost flew across the wheelbarrow
Nobody sells it in school and I have never been able to visit the market all through my four years here. I walked up to Salim, the woman wrapped the corn in nylon and Salim gave her a five hundred naira note. As she was about to give him change, he waved his hand signalling she should keep the change "Ésé! (Thank you)" We hear her say from behind
I was extremely exhausted and now I kind of regret following him apart from the part that he bought me clothes and stuff. I called a purewater hawker and Salim asked "What for?" "I'm thirsty" I replied in a duhh tone "Unhealthy!" He warned "I can't tell him to go now, you know how people around here behave" I cautioned and briefly bought the purewater I would later drink in school as I see him stop at a shop to buy bottled water... I don't see the difference. I've had typhoid several times and now I am immune
🏫🏫
"Thank you for today" I sighed as he parked in school "You welcome. You seem tired" He said "Tired is an understatement. Three hours of sleep wouldn't be enough to conserve my energy "Lazy, Lazy. That's why you're getting fat" He chuckled "Excuse me?" I raised my brows "Just kidding" He said, I don't know why he apologised but I am glad if it's true because I have been looking forward to it. Women are supposed to be offended by that? Stereotypes!!
He began to stare at me. "What?" I asked as I began to squirm in the chair uncomfortably "I... I..." He paused and ran his fingers through his hair in frustration
"I have to get going" I spoke after like seven minutes "No! Wait" He debated "I have something to tell you" He said "Well it can wait" I said as calmly as possible "It is important. I know that I randomly came into your life or as they do say cross paths but I have to tell you the truth, it might hurt you and I am truly sorry. I know it took a lot for you to finally open up and trust me which is something I cherish and I have to tell you this, I... I" He stopped again
"Oh my God! How do I start this?" He balled his fist and punched the dashboard "I.. " He started again "Love me?" I asked as he nodded and sighed a sigh of relief "Not just that, I have something to tell you" He said "I know" I smiled "I love you too" I admitted and headed to the hostel with a smile never leaving my face
My phone buzzed and I checked who the buzzer was. I saw that same number that had called earlier alongside with several missed calls and a message
Unknown: Hi Maryam, It's Turai. I've been trying to reach you please call me when you receive this, I have something to tell you
It must be her new number. I dialled her number immediately, she picked at a ring
"Sorry for not picking, I didn't know twas you" I stated "It's okay" She said "You have something to tell me?" I asked "Yes.. it's about Abbah" She said almost stuttering "What about him?" I asked "He never lost his memory" She said as my heart skipped a beat "I don't trust that. It was obvious he has forgotten" "Trust me, It was all a show" She said seriously, I feel my bags drop from my hand
"Where can I meet him?" I asked furiously
I love you all💕💕🙂
