Me and Habiba went round the city, visiting family and friends. It was a great experience

"Yauwa what about Ladi? I haven't seen her around" I noticed the loud mouthed girl who have something to say about everyone and everything wasn't home "Ladi has tied the knot with her long term lover Yahuza" "Wait, wasn't she schooling? What about her studies?" I asked concerned "Trust me, mom tried convincing her to at least write her SSCE and maybe begin college but she chose marriage instead" She shrugged

"Well I'm glad Yahuza loves her and he atleast has something doing" I shrugged as well. I remembered when she was first brought from the village and how much she has learnt as well as how much we've learnt from her, weaving, games and local delicacies. We taught her how to eat, act and speak, she got so well polished that you would be convinced that she is a city girl. Our relationship with her was so close, people couldn't tell that she isn't our sister

"Do you mind if we go visiting her?" I asked "Maryammm! I am drained" Habiba whined "Please mana, I'd get you shawarma on our way" I said her favourite lines "Okay but after observing prayer" She smiled as I shook my head "You ba, you've not changed a bit"

"Are you sure you know where we're going?" I asked Habiba after entering several paths and corner "Just shut up and drive" She said as I only heed "We're here" She pointed at a red gate as I parked. The gate was opened, we greeted her neighbours and stopped at the last flat.

"Koin koin koin! Assalamu alaykum!" We greeted "Amin waalykm salam" She responded "Wayene?"(Who's that?) She asked "Ke zo ki bude"(Come and open) Habiba replied, she opened immediately after recognising our voices

"Ya Maryammm!" She screamed and hugged me as I hugged her back, she ushered us in and served us chilled Kunun aya. Taking off her hijab I noticed her belly which made me uncomfortable, Ladi has lost all shyness, the Ladi I used to know would never take off her hijab but here She was... Pregnant with all shyness gotten rid off

Ladi can never disappoint us with gist/gulma, we kept laughing and I gave her all I got her as she gratefully received them

"Ehen! Ya Maryam, when are you getting married?" She asked "Taaa! Shut up there and respect your elder" Habiba intervene as we all laughed

On our way back home, Habiba kept staring at me as I felt holes at the side of my face

"What is it?" I asked "Let's be real, when are you getting married?" She asked "I don't know Habiba" I replied "What do you mean?" She asked "Let's say studies was my primary focus and I lost sight of marriage" I shrugged "Alazi boko" She commented as I glared at her "I don't blame you" I hissed

We had a minute beef but engaged in conversations before you know it. A car started honking immediately the traffic light turned green as Habiba cursed them out

"Kaii Habiba" I said astonished at her rebellious behaviour "What? Someone had to put them in their place" She shrugged as I laughed

I parked my car, a car I shared with all my siblings, they drive my car when I'm in school, I see their Snapchat🙄

"Ya Maryam" Amina hugged my legs, I squatted and shuffled her hair slightly pinching her chubby cheeks "Have you been a good girl?" I asked as she nodded "Well I bought you ice cream" I said "Awww thanks" She said as I looked at her astonished "And by the way, you have a guest" She said running away
"A guest?" I asked no one particularly

"Assalamu alaykum!" I greeted as a strong cologne hit my nostrils "Waalykum salam" A deep voice answered, I just stood there and stare with my mouth opened "You?" I questioned "Yes" He smiled "You're here?" I asked as he nodded "How did you..." I was stopped midway by my mom's presence

"Mommy good afternoon" I greeted as she only smiled "Have you greeted your husband?" She teased as I see him smirk "Mum he's just a friend I promise" I tried sounding convincing "There's no need for any explanation, he already came to ask for your hand in marriage and he has our blessings" She said as I gasped "What?" I asked fully alarmed, my dad came in as I ducked and greeted him, he responded and excused himself.

Dad is a very busy man and sometimes we barely see him in a month, I excorted him to his car with his briefcase and waved him goodbye as his car left leaving only fume. I stood there daydreaming of how much I cried when I was little tucking to his cloth that I want to go too but I always fell for the trick of following next time

"Silly me" I silently chuckled, I got used to his absence. Now back to reality, I am so killing that boy called Salim. I stormed towards the sitting room and I saw him chatting with my mom and brothers

"Awww! Y'all bonding? How sweet" I said sarcastically "Let's excuse them" Mom said smiling at me, I looked away from her gaze not sure if I'm shy or embarrassed "What are you doing here?" I spat "Now that's not how you greet your husband" He smiled "Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" I asked "Is it a sin that I wanted to surprise my love?" He frowned "How did you find me?" I asked "Well let's just say I have my ways around this country, okay?" He said shutting me up with a smiled

"How was your trip?" I sighed "Fantastic!" He replied "Why are you so giddy?" I asked annoyed "I got mom's blessing" He smiled, I then remembered why I was mad in the first place
"How dare you marry me without my consent?" I asked furiously "I'm sorry I just thought we should" He apologised "Marriage is no joke, it's a lifetime commitment" I reminded "Do you think I haven't considered that before coming here?" He asked as I shrugged "I love you Maryam, my priority is to make you happy always" He said, there was a long awkward silence amongst us

"Well let's see how long it lasts" I finally broke the silence
