Every passing day I always check in at the hospital to see my baby, she has doubled her size and I really can't wait for her to fully grow so I could take her home. As I was about leaving, I saw Nusaiba as we both exchanged a bone crushing hug
Remember her? The friend I made at the hospital
"Bakida mutunci (You're not a good friend. P.S I'm not so sure about the translation)" She said as she broke the hug "Kawata (My friend) I've been very busy" I explained "No calls, no texts, no visit? Haka ake rayuwa? (Is this how we're living now?) Is it until you hear about my death?" She asked "Haba don't be like that mana, why are you vexing like this?" I asked
"I am vexed o, in fact over vexed sef. Do you know I had a life battling CS?" She stated as I opened my eyes in bewilderment "Are you for real?" I asked "Wallahi! It was a 50/50 chance but Alhamdulillah we both survived" She said gratefully "Alhamdulillah" I said "Where's your baby?" She smiled observing my belly "My dear long story" I sighed "What happened?" She asked
"I went through an early labour so my baby could stay alive" I explained "Ya salam!" She exclaimed "She's currently at the intensive care unit, I just left there sef" I said "We both had our hard times" She admitted as I nodded "You'd have to come to my home" She said "Yes In Shaa Allah I'm planning on doing so as soon as possible" I said "That is what you'll always say, just follow me now or do you have somewhere to go?" She asked "Ahmad would be closing from school soon" I said "It would be a brief visit ai" She said "I didn't tell my husband that I'd be going elsewhere after the hospital" I further explained
"Just call him" She said "I doubt he'd allow me" I said "Then I'd speak to him" She said as I sighed giving up. I placed a call letting him know where I was going "A dawo lafiya (Come back safely)" He bid me bye as I followed Nusaiba's car that led me to her house
"You're welcome to my home" She said after turning the door knobs open "Thank you" I smiled as she giggled, she offered me to sit as she brought a tray filled with snacks and drinks "Ma Shaa Allah you have a lovely home" I commented as I admired the huge house as she thanked me and smiled
"Where's the baby?" I asked "With the nanny" As she called an old lady who is probably at her 50s "Where is my baby?" She asked "Fast asleep ma'am" "Bring her to me" She urged "You really don't have to wake her up, you know how hard it is to get them back to sleep" I said observing the tired eyes of the old lady "It's okay Maryam, she'd fall asleep before you know it"
"Ma Shaa Allah! She is a beauty!" I admired the baby "Just like her mommy" Nusaiba playing stuck her tongue "Don't deceive yourself o! This baby does not look like you" I teased "Ehn I hear" She laughed "What's her name?" I asked "Rukayyah!" She replied "Ma Shaa Allah! May Allah bless the baby" I said as she uttered "Ameen"
We were so into our conversation that it was past Ahmad's close time that I had to spring to my feet. Nusaiba walked me to my car with non stop gratitude
"I should be the one thanking you, now I can't wait for your visit" I said "You don't have to say it twice" She said as I smiled and was bidding each other goodbye but got interrupted by a honk "That is my husband, I'm glad you'd get to meet him" She smiled as she went to hug him, I browsed through my phone and bit my lips in frustration remembering my baby in school
"Maryam meet my husband Salim" Nusaiba said as I stared at someone I used to know, for some odd reasons my heart skipped beats as I only stare at the stranger not even making any effort to say a word
"It's nice meeting you again Maryam" He said as I nodded and awkwardly tried hinting Nusaiba that I was leaving
"My regards to the family" Nusaiba as she waved "Good bye!" She waved "Bye!" I said and meant it for real because I am cutting off their family from my lifeGetting to Ahmad school and not spotting him, I called Omar and he said he had already picked him and so I made a U turn back home
"Assalamu alaykum!" I chorus as I closed the door behind me. Ahmad was fast asleep in the couch while Omar on his phone
"Baby!" I exclaimed as I tried hugging me but he brushed me off as I sighed "Bad day at work?" I asked and got ignored "Ohh I get it. Sorry I didn't make it to Ahmad's school on time" I apologised but still got ignored "Babyyy! Come on don't be like this" I tried hugging him again but he brushed me off even harder"What's wrong?" I asked but got no reply "Can you at least tell me why you're mad? Damn!" I cursed as I began to lose my cool "Where were you?" He asked as he finally took his eyes off his phone "At my friend's place" I replied a bit confused as he scoffed and shook his head
"I seeked your permission before going there" I said "Yes I know. You didn't just mention you were seeking permission to see your ex lover" He raised his brows "Ohh about that" I sighed "Yeah that" He said "How was I supposed to know that Nusaiba is married to him?" I asked furiously "What? Did he bring the butterflies back to life when you saw him?" He asked as I only stared at him feeling hurt. He don't trust me? How could he say that?
"I can't seriously believe you right" I shook my head and headed up the stairs "And don't you ever go there again" He said aloud "Already planned not to"
