I saw Linda waggling her legs all around, staggering with the support of a strange man. They walked past us and I knew I should go meet them before something happens
"Where are you taking her to?" I asked the stranger, he looked me up and down and spat "Mind your business"
"Well that's my best friend as well as my business" I furrowed my brows, he paid me no attention and tried pushing Linda into his car. He looked at Linda like a prey licking his lips"She isn't going anywhere with you" I said pulling her to my side, Linda was oozing with alcohol, she kept blabbering and I shook my head confused to why she'd let herself get this drunk
"Why don't you just mind your damn business bitch?" He spat also smelling alcohol "Don't you ever disrespect my woman like that" Salim warned "Whatchu gon do huh?" He smirked "You better get your bitch out of here before I..." He was saying midway as a punch landed across his face giving him a black eye instantly. They got into a fight and no matter how much I called Salim to stop he wouldn't listen, he pretty much beat the guy up
Someone placed a call and the police arrived, they took them away. We followed the police car and no matter how much we pleaded not guilty they didn't flinch. Salmah placed a call or two and a message was sent directly to the D.P.O
He placed an order and before the transformation of a butterfly, we were freed.
See what power does?
"Why did you do that? You could have stayed in jail" I said worriedly "Did you see how he disrespected you?" He asked angrily "You need to learn to control your anger" I stated "I don't care, nobody disrespect any woman I care for " He said getting into the car, I followed afterwards as Salmah drove with Linda at the passenger's seat
I stare at Salim and noticed the bruises on his face, he also have a black eye and his nose has stopped bleeding. I handed him a tissue and he looked at me in awe
"Why are you crying?" He asked concerned, a tear dropped on my palm before I noticed that I was crying "It's nothing" I wiped my tears off and again offered him the tissue paper "You'd need it most" He only said
We arrived in school and I said my thank you but was held back with his hand across me holding the door firmly
"You're not leaving until you tell me why you were crying" He said. He had asked many times during the ride and I kept telling him that I was fine but he isn't having it. Salmah offered to take Linda to her room, I watched their figures get fainter and fainter.
"Earth to Maryam!" He snapped his fingers and I zoned back "Listen Salim, you won't just get it" I huffed "Try me" He said "It's just really sweet to have someone fight for me like you did earlier, you got hurt from that" My voice almost betrayed me again "I'd gladly get hurt for you again" He smiled and still managed to look handsome despite the mess he is right now
"I am sorry" I apologised "Well if you're that sorry, Why not make me chicken soup then?" He folded his arms "Yeah sure anything to make it up, Egusi? Poundo? Fufu? Okra?? Anything" I offered "Tabb! I don't want to die before my time" He said "Meaning?" I glared at him "I'm not saying you don't know how to cook o! I just don't want to stress you" He smiled
I just don't know why everyone have that first impression of me
We talked about any and everything, little things and laughed
"When are you going home?" He asked "On sunday" I replied "Allah ya kaimu" (May Allah make us witness that day) "Amin" I muttered
I returned to the hostel to see almost everyone packing and it occurred to me we might actually never get to see each other again
