We moved back to Kaduna and the incidence kept flashing in my head, with Allah and a therapist I got better. Ahmad seemed to be getting familiar with his new environment, he had already made a lot of friends. One day I woke up feeling nauseous and weak, checked in at the hospital and discovered that I was pregnant. I was excited because Ahmad is almost five without a sibling but Omar was more excited than I was. He never let me touch a thing and treats me like a baby which I was because I cry over little and everthing. One day a cried because he got me riped mangoes, the other day because he was leaving for work which he barely spends four hours at but he had to ditch work for his ever seeking attention wife
I wasn't like this during Ahmad's pregnancy but ohh well.
I woke up to an empty clean house with my food in the flask. After eating to my satisfaction, I surfed the channels and ended up watching Big Brother Naija but paid no attention to their nonsense as I scroll through the newsfeed on my phone, I checked the date and had a mini panic attack
"Today is the doctor's appointment!" I gasped and dashed into the bathroom to do my business. I dashed out few minutes later and lotioned my body, wore an abaya with trousers. Grabbed the car keys and headed to the hospital only that I rant through the ride on how Omar didn't wake me up on time
I was able to submit my card right before closure and sat on one of the seats for my turn. As I patiently waited for my turn, there was a lady who kept throwing daggers at me through her gaze, I looked around to see if she was looking at someone else but it was clear that she was looking at me. I furrowed my brows and gave her the 'You got a problem?' Kind of look making her look away
"Better" I muttered. I mean you need to see this woman, I've got nothing on her. She is too beautiful to be hating on anybody. Sometimes they say when girls gives you a nasty look, you're probably a threat to them...be it beauty, brains or manners and I know damn well that I am no threat to this lady sitting across me.
She walked up to me and stared at me
"Huh?!" I scrunched my nose up with my eyebrows "I think you're beautiful" She said "What?" I asked confused as guilt began to eat me up, she only smiled as I smiled back awkwardly "Thanks?" Not sure how to respond "You're welcome" She replied "May I?" She asked gesturing at the empty seats beside me "Yes sure sure." I said "Thanks" She heaved as she sat beside me "Sorry about my manners. Woke up all grumpy" I explained "It's okay. We all have our turns, yesterday I cried like a baby. Trust me I was a complete mess" She said, we exchanged laughter, chats and numbers and that was how I made a friend at the antenatal clinic. We were having dinner And the only sounds that could be heard are the cutleries tapping our plates and the faint noise from the television afar.
"Mommy?" Ahmad called out "Yes?" I replied "Can I ask you a question?" He asked "Yeah sure. What is it?" I asked curiously "Why is your belly growing so big?" He asked as I choked on nothing and drank water anyways "Table manners young man" Omar warned "I just wanted to know" Ahmad pouted "Mom eats a lot of food that's why and she's growing big all over her body" Omar laughed at his pathetic explanation making me glare at him "Just let him know" I mouthed, he stopped laughing immediately and cleared his throat "We're having a baby" He said "What? For real?" He asked excitedly and looked at me for assurance as I nodded positively "Yes! I can't wait" He ran around the dining room
"I can't wait to have a brother so we could be playing soccer together" He said "We're not so sure about the gender yet" Omar declared "And what if it's a girl?" I asked Ahmad "A girl?" He asked squeezing his face "What? You don't want a sister?" I asked a bit disappointed "I do, I'm just not sure I can protect her at all times" He said making my heart melt
"With those two strong hands of yours, something tells me that you'd make a good elder brother" I said as I cleared the table while Omar went to watch the football match "You sure?" He asked as I nodded, he hugged me and smiled. He looked at my belly weirdly
"Ahmad come join papa in the parlour and leave the kitchen for the ladies" Omar yelled as I shook my head "Stereotypical much!" I yelled "I'm just kidding" He yelled back as his chuckle echoed around the house, I swear he gets on nerves. Sometimes I want to strangle him and choke him but at the same time I know life would be miserable without him, been there "Good bye mom" Ahmad blurted snapping me away from my train of thoughts, I rubbed his head and prayed for him "Good night brother" He whispered to my belly
Awwww
I went to the living room to make Omar's life miserable a bit by making him make a me a cup of tea, change the channel to an Indian movie and made him watch it with me while massaging my feet... I know, I know, such an evil act. But I'm loving it (Winks*)
Flashlight and a picture of him was taken, as his tired self laid next to my legs, his lips partly apart as light snores escapes. He is a mess, a lovely mess. How can I ever thank you Lord? Thank you for this Angel of a man sleeping in front of me
I tapped him lightly as we walked up the stairs.
Lights out
