I dashed into Ahmad's room to see him sobbing on his bed
"Oh my God! What's wrong baby? Are you okay?" I carried him as I patted his back "Why are you crying?" I asked concerned "She took my toy" He cried "Who?" I asked concerned "It's probably a nightmare" Omar intervened as we took him to sleep with usI recited some dua on my palm and rubbed it on his body as I played the Qur'anic recitation on my phone and placed it next to him
I woke up to an empty bed again... basic. It is the weekend and I already know they've gone to play football, I just freshen up and went downstairs to make breakfast. They showed up when I had just finished, they were drenched in sweat as they almost made their way to the fried plantain laying on the plate
"Shower first" I ordered as they groaned but obeyed. Few minutes later, they returned looking fresh we had breakfast and dressed up to go to the hospital to visit the baby, we were told that we would have her in four days and we couldn't be grateful enough. We went to the park and spent few hours before returning home
Ahmad seemed to not pay attention to most of our activities, so I decided to ask him
"Baby what's wrong?" I asked him "Nothing mom" He shrugged "Why were you screaming last night?" I asked "It was Rifah who took my toy" He replied "Who is Rifah?" I asked fully alarmed as he chuckled "She said I shouldn't tell" He whispered "You shouldn't tell me what?" I asked "She is my imaginary friend" He whispered again and giggled
"Hasbunallah wa ni'mal wakil" I said aloud as I reached for my Qur'an
"Mommy no please" He pleaded "No what?" I asked confused "Anytime you recite she gets hurt and leaves" He replied "Ahmad what are you saying? Nashiga uku!" I exclaimed "Omar?" I called but got no reply "OMAR?" I called at the top of my lungs as he rushed inside "What is it?" He asked concerned
"It's Ahmad" I said as Ahmad had a creepy smile on with his eyes shut. Omar held him and called his name several times but only got a smile for reply
"What is wrong with him?" Omar asked confused "He said something about imaginary friend, I think it's a jinn" I stated as I reminisced on my past experience "Let's call Mallam Yaqub" I suggested as Omar handed me his phone whilst reciting some ayas in Ahmad's ear. I searched for his number and dialed immediately
"Hello.. Salamu alaikum! Mallam please we need your assistance. It is urgent. Yes. Please hurry" I said nervously. Ahmad struggled in Omar's grip as he kept on reciting, I rushed to perform ablution. I observed two raka'ah and wept on sujood, there was a bang at the door and I got it, thankful that he made it on time
"Assalamu alaykum! What is the matter? You sounded disturbed over the phone" Mallam Yaqub who has been a family friend and also Ahmad's personal Islamic teacher urged confused "It's Ahmad" I said as tears threatened to fall. He dashed towards the living room and went straight to where Ahmad was laid. He performed some Ruqyah and invited some colleagues too
I was told to leave as I obeyed. Behind the room door I prayed and cried. Fourty minutes later the door clicked opened revealing an exhausted Omar who managed to put a smile on his face
"Is he okay?" I managed to ask as he held my hand and led me to the living room. The Mallams seemed to be rounding up the session as Ahmad slept peacefullyI gently wiped Ahmad's tender face as my hand carried whatever was applied to his face. I rushed to the kitchen to fix a few plates and waited in the kitchen till they were done. Omar came in with a tray of empty plates and cups signalling they were done, I walked back to the living room to see no one
"They left" Omar said "What? Why didn't you tell me so I could at least say thank you?" I asked disappointed "Well I think the food has already covered that" He said "But I really wanted to.." "No buts okay? Trust me your thank you wouldn't mean anything because their services is for Allah" Omar said as he held my cheeks, I smiled and shook him off
