JRS CANON

The Lafayettes had been through terrible times lately once their family was completely destroyed by the French Revolution.

Gilbert de Lafayette returned to his country after fighting for America's freedom and had a hero's welcome. But his attention was dragged away once he met Adrienne. She was the most beautiful woman he has ever seen until that day. With her long wavy raven hair, dark skin, and deep blue eyes, he got in love the second that laid eyes on her.

After a short amount of time, they got married and had a healthy little boy which they named after the ex-general George Washington, Georges Washington de Lafayette.

When the boy was eight, the king saw his father as a dangerous fomenter of rebellion as the revolution started and Gilbert was arrested. Adrienne joined her husband behind bars, much to his discontent, but she remembered him that she was happier with him in prison than without him in some palace. Georges was sent to an aunt far from the city where he lived until their parents were released after tons of negotiations.

Although they were free, Adrienne had gotten sick in the prison. And was beyond cure.

"Maman" Georges said as his mother laid in bed, looking extremely tired, but still she smiled kindly at her boy "S'il te plaît, ne meurs pas... Je ne veux pas que tu partes, reste avec moi s'il te plaît. Qui va s'occuper du jardin maintenant?" (Please don't die... I don't want you to leave, please stay with me. Who's going to take care of the garden now?)

She strokes his cheek as tears fall in the boy's face "Tu vas aller bien mon beau garçon... Tu es fort, gentil et tu as le plus grand coeur que j'ai jamais vu. Rappelez-vous toujours de vous battre pour ceux que vous aimez, oui?" (You are going to be ok my beautiful boy... You are strong, kind and have the greatest heart I've ever seen. Always remember to fight for the ones you love, yea?)

Georges nods and kiss his mother cheek before hugging her tightly "Je t'aime, maman" (I love you, mommy)

"Je t'aime aussi chéri. Avec tout mon coeur" (I love you too, sweetheart. With all my heart) She whispers as she hugs him back "Oh! Et après mon départ, c'est toi qui es responsable du jardin... Je t'ai très bien appris, n'est-ce pas?" (Oh! And after I'm gone, you're responsible for the garden... I've taught you very well, didn't I?) Adrienne says giggling as they set apart.

"Oui, maman" He replies sadly but also smiles with his mother, who starts to cough.

Lafayette quickly takes a cloth from a basin with water and places it at her head as Georges exits the room crying.

"He will be fine..." Adrienne whispers at the worried father "Just take care of our boy, oui?"

"I will" Lafayette whispers back, holding back his tears. The image of his beautiful wife so ill made him feel extremely guilty, once she only got in prison because of him.

"And please, Laff... Don't blame yourself forever. It was my choice. And if I got the chance to go back in time, I would do it all over again without hesitating" That was when he finally started to cry. Adrienne wiped the tears away as she herself also had tears in the eyes "And promise me... That you won't give up on love-"

"No" He says shaking his head.

"You deserve to find someone" She keeps on speaking "You don't need to be alone just because of me... Find a woman as kind and tender as you, and know that I will be happy with it..."

"Non... I can't do it, mon ange..." He whispers between tears and looks into her eyes "I will never be able to forget you"

"I'm not asking you to forget me. I will always be with you..." Adrienne replies placing her hand in his chest "I'm asking you to find someone else to love you as much as I do... Someone to be by your side in the hard times and in the good ones. You're free to find love again..." She was now crying with him too "Lafayette, please, promise me you will"
