It's been ten months since Stephan and Susan got married and they were handling it greatly, but then their first heated argument came by.

"We are not throwing a Halloween party!" Susan shouted as she put the last plate back in its place.

"Aw, come on!" Stephan says madly. He never was a party guy but Halloween was literally the only holiday he gets excited with since he was a kid "It's already middle of October and you hadn't even let me put on the decoration!"

Susan throws the dishcloth hard in the sink and stares at him with a cold stare "Because I hate Halloween" She states and passes by him saying "It's a dark magic party, Stephan. I don't agree with it! You know I hate scary things and this is the mean point of Halloween!"

"It's just costumed people getting stuffed with candy and pumpkin dishes!" He chuckled at what she said.

"I don't like it! It is a demonic holiday hiding behind all the positive and colorful things. It's a creepy and cursed night and I won't have it celebrated in my house!"

"Our house" He corrected her.

"You're really getting to this?" She says angrily hiding the hurt in her voice and holding the tears back. She was an easy crier and that was the mean reason she didn't use to argue with anyone.

The living room couch was separating them, each one in one side staring at the other with crossed arms, whenever Stephan shot "Well, I didn't complain when you wanted to host the Christmas party here"

"Because it was Christmas" She states as if it was obvious.

"And I don't like Christmas!" He mocked with a fake smile.

"Why you don't like Christmas?!" She shouts surprised and intrigued.

"I'll just list three things-" He says and then points each statement counting his fingers "Fruit cakes, Christmas carols and the whole 'Jesus is the reason for the season'. Come on, it has borrowed so many traditions from pagan religions, how much of it is actually Christ-mas?!"

"Hey" She points at him as a warning. Susan was Catholic and Stephan an Atheist but they never really had an argument about their point of views before that day.

"Ok, sorry" He replies quickly and looks away, knowing he made her sad but still his voice didn't show any sight of regret.

They stood in silence for a few seconds until it was too much for Susan to hold her tears. She walked past him right to their room, Stephan sighing as he heard her sniff and then closing the door softly behind her.

...

Stephan sneaked into the room after an hour and found Susan asleep with a kneaded tissue on her hand and a red nose. He got used to that type of reactions over their teenage years. She was a crybaby and would start crying over the silliest and smallest things. He hadn't even thought about that when the argument began.

I shouldn't have yelled at her. He thought.

Another thing that he only realized now was that she would get scared with a simple bug flying too close to her face, and indeed Halloween consisted into scares.

He lay by her side and took a curl of her waist-long chocolate hair out of her face and placed it behind her ear, rubbing her cheek and admiring her beautiful sleeping face before kissing the top of her nose "I'm sorry" He whispered.
