After we rode down the elevator, we came to a large room where people were constantly coming in and out.
“I’m guessing this is where we go.” Bailey said as we walked in.
The room was huge. Looking around at all these people, I suddenly realized how hard this competition was actually going to be. There were 48 states being represented in this competition and two teams from each. That’s 95 teams we were competing against. The more I thought about it, the more nervous I got. And I don’t get nervous very often. The tables were set up by state going in alphabetical order so ours was near the middle.
“I think we are the most unlucky people in the world.” Bailey whispered in my ear.
I snapped out of my train of thought and looked at her.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean we’re sitting by state. We live in San Antonio and the other team representing the state is Dallas. Landon lives in Dallas.” She explained.
“Shit.” I muttered.
“Alright everyone please head to your seats, dinner will start in fifteen minutes.” A woman’s voice came over the intercom.
“Ready?” Bailey sighed.
“Absolutely not.” I replied.
We headed over to our table and Landon and the two girls who we got pictures of were sitting on both sides of him. The four of us stood there awkwardly waiting for them to notice us until Liz let out an annoyed cough. All three heads looked up at us and Landon smiled.
“Um, hi.” Liz said.
“Hi.” The girl on the left said.
All of us just kind of stared at each for a few more seconds like we didn’t want to interact.
“Texans, the free time before dinner is to introduce yourself to each other,” the announcer lady said when she came over to our table, “get to it then have a seat!” she said with a smile.
Then she hurried away to another table and all seven heads turned back to each other.
“I’m Tessa.” Thank God she spoke up.
“Bailey.”
“Liz.”
“Lexi.” We all called off our names and sat down.
“I’m Hanna.” The brunette on the right said.
Her short brown hair was curled and sat on her shoulders, she had big brown eyes, her face looked like it had come out of a magazine, and she wore a bright smile. Maybe she was like the American version of Tess, perfectly beautiful in every way.
“I’m Justice.” The redhead on the left cut in.
Her dark red, curly hair came flowing down her back, and her dark blue eyes popped out like marbles. Her smile was just as bright as Hanna’s and she reminded me a lot of Ariel.
“And you know me.” Landon smiled.
Suddenly I was really nervous. It’s not like we didn’t have any talent and we were butt ugly or anything, but Landon’s team seemed perfect. I had never seen any of their talents but they had to be relatively decent if they made it here. Not to mention the fact that Landon looked like A Hollister model, and Hanna and Justice looked like Victoria Secret models. Healthy ones, not the so-skinny-and-plastic-I-can-see-right-thru-you kind.
“I’ll be right back.” Landon said looking over his shoulder, then he got up and walked to another table.
“So where are you guys from?” Hanna asked.
