The next day, I decided to bring Adrian on a little tour of the town I grew up in. I showed him the elementary school and high school I attended when I was a kid. I told Adrian stories of things I’d done with friends over the years. I ran into a good friend Wray, who was still as weird as ever. He had become a pretty famous musician and had come back to visit some friends, proving his parents wrong. I was so proud of him; I’d always had faith in him. He walked and talked with us for a while as I showed Adrian more of the town.

After we said goodbye to Wray, I got a text from my mom asking if I could come by the house and pick up any items I may have forgotten. Adrian and I took a cab to the house where I spent almost all of my childhood. I moved into the large house when I was 4 years old and lived there until I finished high school.

As I walked into the home I grew up in, I looked around. The house was how I remembered, for the most part. There were a few things that were different, but it was still very familiar to me. I took off my shoes and slowly walked around the main level, with Adrian trailing behind me. I went into the basement and saw that my father still had the beautiful sailboat painting. They had also kept the clay animals I made at a birthday party when I was younger. There were two fish, one painted and one not, and a pig. The fish that was painted had eyelashes and one of them had fallen off.

I decided to bring them home with me. I also grabbed the video games that my brother had left; I was glad that my parents hadn’t sold them.

When Adrian saw me grabbing the video games, he said “You play video games?” in a surprised voice

“Yup,” I replied, grinning “I barely had a life as a teen since I gamed so much.”

“My girlfriend is a gamer, cute” He said, winking at me.

I giggled.

We walked back upstairs to see if there was anything else I might want to bring home with me. In the living room, I saw the striped couch that Adam had picked up on the side of the road when he was 17. I was surprised he hadn’t picked it up before; my mother noticed me staring at the couch and said

“He was planning on picking it up the day after he went to Wonderland. Take it, your father and I want you to have it.”

I ran my hand along the couch

“Okay,” I replied “I’ll take it”

Afterwards, we went upstairs to finish looking for anything I wanted to bring back with me. I started thinking about Shay, and became upset and worried. What if she was already dead, or worse, turned? I realized I though like Rose & Dimitri when it came to Strigoi, that death was better than becoming one. I considered the options I had, if she was dead, which the thought made my eyes tear up, then I’d have to accept her death, make up a story, since I couldn’t tell her parents that a vampire had killed their daughter. I’d have to go to another funeral of someone I love. But if she was turned, there was a possibility she could be saved, if a spirit user stabbed her in the heart with a stake… Adrian was a spirit user, but if he failed and she killed him then a guardian staked her, I’d lose them both, and I didn’t think I could handle that. I pushed that thought out of my mind before I completely broke down as I continued walking.

I walked into my room and found it the same as I left it, except on the bed was a large quantity of albums. I looked through them quickly and found copies of all the pictures that my parents had taken since they’d gotten married, it was perfect. They knew how much I loved photography. I smiled and decided to take them all with me. I planned to take the time to look at them back at the hotel and on the plane ride home. I also grabbed some of my favorite books from my bookshelf; I grabbed Impulse, the Harry Potter series, the Hunger Games trilogy, the Divergent series, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Hobbit, the Silmarillion and others. I also grabbed a framed picture of 2 kittens I’d had in my room ever since I could remember, I thought it was adorable.

I moved on to Adam’s room, which wasn’t easy, since he was gone now. I grabbed a few items, and then moved on to Brian’s room, which was also a guest room and grabbed a few more items. Afterwards I returned to the main level. Before I left I decided to bake something and bring it back with me. Baking was another one of my passions, and I was starting at a culinary college in the fall, which I was extremely excited for. Adam had faith that I could become a baker, and I’d started really getting into baking at the age of 16.

I decided to make my favorite kind of cake, which was red velvet with chocolate cream cheese as frosting. Adrian helped me with it and when we were done we decided to go back to the hotel and pack, since our flight was tonight. We said out goodbyes and my mother even whispered in my ear

“Adrian’s a keeper; don’t let that boy get out of your sight.”

I blushed and replied “I agree completely mother, and I won’t.”

Adrian and I took a taxi back to the hotel and we spent the whole ride cuddling in the back seat, Adrian whispered to me

“So I’m a keeper, am I?”

I blushed again; I should have known he would have heard what my mom said.

“I think you are” I said to Adrian, blushing even more

He kissed me, “Good, and by the way, I’m not going anywhere.”

“Good,” I replied, smiling and snuggling closer to him.

The last thing I felt before falling asleep was his lips brushing my forehead softly.
